All that remains is the dried mud

Today the waters have subsided.

But, even last evening high water was still a problem is spots.

This shows the stream crossing the Hardin County Line south of County Line Church of the Brethren. That stream was still high on Thursday evening and traffic was unable to cross.

Young's Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour stops overnight here July 16

Bikers are coming to Ada on Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17.

There could be as many as 300 – all on 10-speeds and similar varieties. Their arrival is part of the annual Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour, an 83-mile (one way) jaunt from Yellow Springs to Ada and return.

The purpose of the ride – in addition to the exercise – is raise funds and awareness for Young’s charities. This year’s ride supports The Alzheimer’s Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, South Community Behavioral Healthcare and United Rehabilitation Services.

Red Cross assisting family involved in Mt. Cory house fire

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter responded to a fire that occurred on Lincoln Street in Mt. Cory on Thursday.

The Red Cross provided assistance to the family of four for emergency shelter and immediate needs such as clothing and food and also provided comfort kits of personal hygiene items to those affected.

Todd James, Executive Director, North Central Ohio Chapter. Said the Red Cross urges everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.

The American Red Cross of Hancock County is a United Way partner.

Here's what you need to enter the Harvest and Herb parade

Interested in being in the Saturday, Sept. 17, Ada Harvest and Herb parade?

Here's what you need to know to participate.

The parade line-up starts at 9 a.m. at the Ada school. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Junior Weihrauch of Arlington is this year's parade director.

At the bottom of this story are parade guidelines and a parade application form. Parade entries must be submitted by Aug. 30.

Chapman named a Scholar All-American

Ohio Northern junior Jill Chapman was named a Scholar All-American for 2015-16 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The Polar Bears were also named a Scholar All-America team by the CSCAA this year.

Chapman was one of a record 853 swimmers and divers named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America team. The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

She is a two-time NCAA III Championships qualifier in the 50 free, finishing 27th this season and 35th as a sophomore in 2015.

Some Ada rain gauges filled to 4+inches in 4-5 hours

The rain came tumbling down Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Overall, Ada fared well.

CHECK THE PHOTO OF THE HERON IN GRASS RUN.

Officially at the water treatment plant, Ada received 3.25 inches of rain between 6:30 a.m. Wednesday through 6:30 a.m. Thursday. The rain is recorded once a day.

Others in Ada reported rain gauges filled with 4.5 to 4.75 inches in about 4 to 5 hours.

That compares with only about a half inch of rain for the entire first three weeks of the month.
