Sam Slavik named assistant baseball coach at Ohio Northern

Sam Slavik has been named an assistant baseball coach at Ohio Northern University. He will be the pitching coach and also the head JV coach.

In the summer of 2013, Slavik was on the coaching staff for the Lima Locos of the Great Lakes Colliegate Baseball League. The Locos captured 2nd place in the league and finished with a 25-19 overall record.

Ada Kiwanis members went fishing - in a manner of speaking - on Aug. 20.

Here's the story:

Kiwanis member Harold Friesner reported on the annual fishing trip made by several Kiwanis members Harold Friesner, Charles Van Dyne, Bruce Neely and John Berg, along with four others Jim Turner, David Schmidt, Dick Hubbard and Karlton Plaugher.

The trip was taken to Ontario, Canada, a little east of Thunder Bay. The trip has been made by various Ada residents since 1972.

2013 Hardin County Fair week is closer than you think

Hardin County Fair week is just around the corner. This year’s fair opens on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 8. Ada schools will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3, for "fair day."

Gates open daily at 7:30 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Open class and junior fair exhibits must be in place by 9 p.m., Sept. 2. The fair officially opens at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 3.

ONU featured in The Princeton Review’s ‘The Best 378 Colleges: 2014 Edition’

Ohio Northern University is once again featured as one of the nation’s top schools in The Princeton Review’s annual college guide, “The Best 378 Colleges: 2014 Edition.” ONU also is one of the 153 institutions that The Princeton Review recommends in the “Best of the Midwest” section of its website feature, “2014 Best Colleges by Region.”

“We are pleased that this student survey again places ONU among the best universities in the country,” said Dr. Daniel A. DiBiasio, Ohio Northern University president. “This is reflective of the quality of our programs and personnel and the appreciation our students have for excellence.”
