Hardin Democratic Central and Exe Committees meet Aug. 14

The next meeting of the Hardin County Democratic Central and Executive Committees will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Banquet Room at Brunson’s Restaurant, 1 North Detroit Street, Kenton. Please not the change in location.

Village Voice: Ada tradition will be all around us this weekend!

Beginning on Thursday, the Lincoln Highway Buy Way will once again be visible in and around town. The annual community wide garage sales will be continuing through Saturday, and maps of pre-registered sales are available in the Village Offices and throughout town.

Be a part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Lincoln Highway by visiting the sales! Ada CIC and Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will again have a daily information tent on Main Street in front of the Railroad Park – stop by to pick up a map, and shop the Ada historic items!

Volleyball named recipient of AVCA Team Academic Award

|The Ohio Northern volleyball team has been named as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
To be eligible, a team must have a team cumulative grade point average of 3.30.

The Polar Bears were one of 93 Division III teams to receive this honor.

This this consecutive season and ninth time that the Polar Bears have gotten this award under head coach Kate Witte.

Ohio Northern posted a 24-7 record in 2012 and went 7-2 in the OAC. Northern also qualified for the NCAA III Tournament for the 28th time in its 32 year history.

Glen Stearns honored at Gene Autry 75th anniversary celebration

During the Gene Autry 75th anniversary celebration the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance and the Gene Autry Days Committee honored Glen Stearns the founder of Gene Autry Days. The celebration was held at the Gene Autry Mural Park, located at the corner of West Franklin and Market Streets in Kenton.

Gene Autry visited Kenton on August 8, 1938, to tour the Kenton Hardware Company which manufactured his repeating cap guns. Gene and his horse Champion held five performances at the Kenton Theatre which over 4,000 people attended. Records indicated that over 6 million Gene Autry Cap Guns were manufactured at the Kenton Hardware Company.

Cartridge World collecting back-to-school supplies

Cartridge World is collecting school supplies Aug. 12-17 at both of their Lima locations.

Supplies will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Allen County for their 3rd annual Back2School Kickoff on Aug. 17.

Cartridge World will accept new school supplies at both Lima locations: 1094 N. Cable Rd. and 2100 Harding Highway.

According to Dave Fett, owner of Cartridge World Lima, “We enjoy being involved in our local schools, and this is one way we can partner with the community to give back.”

Iconic Bakery: What to do with all those peaches!

Fresh Peach Cobbler
Recipe from Cathy Carroll

3 c. sliced fresh peaches
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 stick butter or margarine
3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk

Mix peaches in 1 cup sugar. Let stand. Put butter in 2 quart casserole, place in 325 degree oven to melt. Combine remaining sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and milk.
Pour over melted butter (do not stir). Spoon speaches on top of butter (do not stir).
Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
