Does 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten sound like a staggering goal? Let’s say you begin when your child is one year old: that’s reading ⅔ of a book every day for four years. Okay, so what’s a book? An average board book is about 14 pages. An early reader book averages 32 pages (500-2,000 words) Still sound daunting?
Fortunately, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten nonprofit and hundreds of libraries across the United States are ready to give families and caregivers a helping hand, providing encouragement and resources.
RIDGEWAY - The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team rallied late but lost a 41-39 nailbiter to Hardin County rival Ridgemont on a very cold Monday evening, January 20.
The tough non-conference road defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 2-13. The Gopher girls improved to 4-8 with the seesaw victory.
Ridgemont jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Anna Conley fed Brooklynn Andreasen for the first Bulldog basket on a layup at the 3:18 mark to pull within 6-2.
The Gophers scored two driving field goals to make it 10-2. Andreasen swished a lane shot and Ada edged within 10-6 after the opening stanza.
The Village of Ada will hold the January 21 regular council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at 1200 S. Main St. (Community Health Professionals building). The change in venue is to accomodate the public.
The Village will attempt to broadcast this meeting live via Zoom HERE. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting in person.
