Hootenannies 4-H Club will help at Kenton YMCA Triathlon

By Faith Holbrook

The Hootenannies 4-H Club met at Miranda Holbrook’s farm. President Megan Williams opened the meeting and asked Preston Brien to lead the American pledge and Faith Holbrook to lead the 4-H pledge. Secretary Miranda Holbrook found 11 members present with roll call.

We voted to reconsider the Keeping Hardin Co. Beautiful at our next meeting when more information can be given to the members. We also voted to help at the Kenton YMCA Triathlon on Sat. July 26. Club members can work at the event and participate when their age group is up. This year they are having it for youth and adults.

Club t-shirts were discussed. They were talking about a bright neon color. It was also suggested to have a logo contest within the group. More will be decided upon when we find out who will be doing our shirts for us and what is available.

Dues for membership will stay at $3/member or $5/family and are to be paid to Treasurer Seth Davis by the next meeting.

We really want to make a new sign as a group for our club to be at the fair since our old sign mysteriously disappeared last year. Since Faith Holbrook suggested this, she will ask the USV Ag department if maybe a student can make letters for us for shop credit. It has been ok’d by USV teacher, Ms. Finch, to look into doing this for us. We will figure other details in future meetings. The members are very excited to be a part of this project.

Advisor Ray Davis reminded members with dairy feeders that weigh-in at the fairgrounds is on Sat. May 24th.

Levi Beiler reported on Bike Safety and Seth Davis gave a report on the safety of fencing goats and what plants are dangerous to the goats.  Both were very educational.

Refreshments of homemade brownies, cheese and crackers, and punch were provided by Miranda and Faith Holbrook.

Our next meeting will be on Sun. May 18th at the Ag Credit conference room at 4 p.m.  Advisor Melissa Rofe announced we will be having our club’s quality assurance presentation and reminded us this is a requirement for each member to do prior to being able to show at the county fair. The information we learn will be great to know since we are soon getting our livestock for projects this year. We will not be having any health and safety reports at that meeting. Laura Spradlin volunteered to bring refreshments.
