Ada's latest news

The winning streak continues. The Ohio Northern men's soccer team made it four victories in a row Wednesday night, downing Hanover (Ind.) 2-0 at Kerscher Stadium behind a pair of second half goals.

"We take a lot of pride in getting shut outs," interim head coach Chris Matejka said. "Team defense is a big part of what we do. It feels good to get four, and we just want to keep it going."

A big part of that team defense is sophomore goaltender John Lombardo (Solon). He logged two saves Wednesday to earn his fifth shut out of the season and fourth in a row. It has been four years since ONU has shut out four straight opponents.

Municipal building project delay due to elevator installation

The Ada municipal building renovation project is falling behind completion schedule due to delays in installing the new elevator.

Ada council members received that news from Police Chief James Harnishfeger during his report at the Sept. 3 council meeting. Harnishfeger told council that the elevator is the only holdup in the project.

The “substantial” completion date is Sept. 27, but the delay from the elevator is expected to take the project into November, according to minutes from the meeting.

Councilman Don Fleming asked for a clarification on the completion date. Jamie Hall, village administrator, said that it is 180 days from the contract signing.

Mayor David Retterer announced that Ada's village trick-or-treat night will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.

The Ada Kiwanis Club Halloween parade is Monday, Oct. 28. Watch the Icon for more details on the parade coming soon. Here's a photo from last year's Halloween parade.

Work in the Ada municipal building continues this month. Here's a look at the main office in the building with painting underway and – notice the floor. In the next photos in the series you'll discover what became of the office workers and you'll see the floor minus its carpet.

SR 235 and SR 309 become one-lane at times

Two major Ada streets are involved in major pavement repairs this week.

The project also includes installation of curb ramps and concrete sidewalks within the village of Ada.

On South Main the grinding takes the street down to the former brick Main Street of a century ago. A photo below reveals about 6 inches of pavement laid over the years since the street was bricked.

The streets are:
• State Route 81 between the western village limits and Township Road 55
• State Route 235 between the northern village limits and State Route 309

The work has turned much of Main Street into a one-lane roadway.
