Ada school schedule pick up Aug. 9

With the start of the 2012-13 Ada school year just days away, here is some back to school information.

The school office hours starting Monday, Aug. 6 is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed for lunch. 

ALL JUNIOR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS will pick up schedules on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the following times:

7th & 8th grade  8:00 am to 10:00 am ****Note: 7th graders MUST have TDAP vaccincation prior to the start of the new school year. Proof of vaccination MUST be provided to pick up schedule.

9th & 10th grade  10:00 am to 12:00 pm

OFFICE CLOSED NOON TO 1:00 PM

Mitchell "Mitch" Bailey - complete obituary

Mitchell "Mitch" Bailey, 86, died at 2:45 p.m. July 30, 2012, at Kindred Hospital, Lima.

He was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Breathitt County, Ky., to John and Dora Marshall Bailey, who preceded him in death. On March 15, 1947, he married Omalee Patton, who died Nov. 24, 2011.

Mr. Bailey retired from Bartlett Roofing and Swartz Construction, both in Lima, where he worked in roofing and construction. He was a member of Bethlehem Tabernacle Church, Lima. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Marlene K. Bassitt - complete obituary

Marlene K. Bassitt, 78, died at 2:05 p.m. July 30, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Lima to Hubert and Fern Folk Golden, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 28, 1950, she married Ralph R. Bassitt, who died April 8, 1990.

Mrs. Bassitt was a homemaker. She had been a member of Living Word Chapel, Lima. She was a member of Lafayette-Jackson Township Garden Club and the Lafayette-Jackson Historical Society. She had been a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary, Lima. She was a volunteer at Plus Healthcare Center and was an avid bowler.

Pharmacy student’s poster presentation garners third at national convention

Ohio Northern University student Megan Bensi, a fifth-year pharmacy major from Kirtland, Ohio, garnered third place in a student poster presentation at the Drug Information Association (DIA) 2012 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia on June 24-28.

At the convention, Bensi competed against 20 graduate-level students. Her poster, titled “Evaluating Consumer Understanding of Prescription Label Information: An Assessment of USP 2011 Recommendations,” was chosen from a pool of more than 100 students in multiple disciplines from around the world.

Alma Long was a teacher in Upper Scioto Valley schools for 30 years

Alma Maxine (Moyers) Long, 86, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 11:25 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1925 in Bruceton Mills, W.V. to Charles and Stella (Guthrie) Moyers, who preceded her in death. On June 10, 1951, she married Urban L. Long and he survives in Ada.

Mrs. Long graduated from Bruceton Mills High School and Bridgewater College, Virginia. She began her teaching career in the last one room school in Preston County, West Virginia; in which her mother also taught. She was a science teacher in the Upper Scioto Valley School System for 30 years, teaching Chemistry, Biology and Earth Science.
