Tommy "Tink" Hall was past owner of Cast Away Skydivers Club of Ada

Tommy R. "Tink" Hall, 67, died on Friday Jan. 24, 2014, at his residence in Bluffton.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Tommy and Alta (Frasure) Hall and they preceded him in death. On Nov. 27, 1976 he married Lee Ann Woolley Arlington and she survives in Bluffton.

Mr. Hall was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War and in the Army National Guard. He was the past owner of Cast Away Skydivers Club of Ada. He retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima. He was a life member of the VFW Post #9381of Ada and was an avid golfer.

Betty Harps 1920-2014

Betty B. Harps, 93, died in the early morning on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at her residence in Denham Springs, La.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1920, in Beaverdam, Ohio, to John and Hazel (Young) Mort and they preceded her in death. On Nov. 22, 1937 she married Earl B. Harps and he survives in Denham Springs, La.

She previously worked as a school bus driver for Shawnee Schools and she worked for R.G. Dunn Cigar Factory in Lima, Ohio. She also retired from McDonalds Restaurant in Denham Springs, La. after working for 28 years. She was a member of the St. Mathews Lutheran Church of Ft. Shawnee, Ohio. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars of Lima, Ohio.

ONU women host annual "Hoops for Hope" game

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team will host its annual "Hoops for Hope" game on Saturday against Marietta at 3 pm. The team will hold a bake sale of assorted goods and will also have a raffle for various gift baskets.

All proceeds will go to breast cancer research. Before the game against Marietta, Northern will also have its annual alumni game, with tipoff scheduled for noon.

Ohio Northern stands at 13-4 on the season, with 6-4 mark in OAC play.

Gail Peterson finds a new way to welcome children and adults into the world of books

After touring the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay with a women’s group, Gail Peterson of Ada recalls thinking of her love of children’s books, utilizing them over the years in her speech therapy work and often sharing her favorites as gifts.

Gail loved and was in awe of the artwork she saw at Mazza whose website touts the collection at over 8,000 original illustrations.  A friend of Gail’s was a museum docent (leader of guided tours), and Gail quickly volunteered to begin docent training herself as she was planning to retire from the Hardin County Educational Service Center after a lifelong career of speech therapy work.

James Alt was a member of VFW Post 9381

James G. Alt, 90, of Bluffton died 3:06 a.m. Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Putnam County to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Nadler Alt. On Feb. 16, 1957 he married Ursula Nussbaum and she survives.

He retired from the Ford Engine Plant, Lima. He was a  member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton, VFW Post 9381, Ada, and Putnam County DAV Chapter 77.
