December 6 injury accident reported at CR 15 and SR 81

Eight safety services units were dispatched to an injury accident at State Route 81 and County Rd 15 on Friday, December 6.

The call was received at 3:02 p.m. by the Hardin County Sheriff's dispatch center.

Ada Bulldogs boys basketball defeats Wildcats in BVC opener

VANLUE – The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team rode a big third quarter to defeat upset-minded Vanlue 67-60 in their inaugural Blanchard Valley Conference opener Friday night, December 6.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the BVC after winning their third straight road game to start the season.

Vanlue fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the BVC with the home defeat.

Junior Zack Zimmerman led Ada with a career-high 29 points as he canned four triples.

“We weren’t ready to play, and they came out playing really well and got us down early,” said Bulldog head coach Chris Sautter. “We didn’t rebound well defensively.

“But we made enough plays down the stretch to win,” he noted.

The Bulldogs trailed 17-13 after the first period. The Wildcats maintained a four-point lead at halftime, 31-27.

Weekend Doctor: How the body fights bacteria and viruses

Did you know our bodies are always working to fight off viruses and bacteria that can cause us to become sick? Our lungs, stomach, muscles, bones, and nerves are constantly working to fight infection. 

For example, a sneeze is a coordinated effort between the lungs, muscles, bones and nervous system that activates when the lining of the nose is irritated. Coughs are a repetitive reflex that helps clear breathing passages of irritants, viruses, and bacteria. When you cough, there are three stages: inhalation, forceful exhalation against closed-up vocal cords and a violent release of air following the opening of the vocal cords. 

The average person breathes in about 2,000 gallons of air daily, exposing our bodies to possible infectious pathogens. Everyone is familiar with and likely has had influenza (the flu) and COVID-19, but did you know that there are approximately 200 known pathogens that can cause illness and impact the respiratory system differently?

Middlefield Bank recently donated $1,600 to the Wolf Creek Art Center in Kenton, Ohio. The contribution will help the center repair damage to its West Classroom.

Liberty Township meeting minutes for 11-18-2024

The Liberty Towship board of trustees has provided the attached minutes from their November 18 meeting. Attendance: Jeff Acheson, Will Stoup, Jason Weihrauch and Patty Griffin.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Approved new cemetery rates effective January 1, 2025
- Fiscal Officer Patty Griffin reported that since the levy failed (in the November general election), they will try again in March for a replacement.

KENTON - Hardin County Student Leaders-United met on Wednesday, Dec 4 at Kenton High School. This is the third meeting for the 2024-25 school year. The group of 24 selected Sophomores meets monthly to develop their leadership skills and learn more about charitable organizations within Hardin County. 

Quest Federal Credit Union led the students in the “Game of Life.”  This program came is a collaboration of participants in the 2023 Hardin Leadership class and the United Way of Hardin County. Lunch was provided for the students by Moore than Just BBQ and Graphic Packaging.

Obituary for Kirby Marinette-Lyndlee Hamlin

Kirby Marinette-Lyndlee Hamlin, 7 months, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Kirby was born on April 24, 2024 in Lima, Ohio to her parents Michael and Oksana (Shaw) Hamlin.

She is survived by her parents; three brothers: Dylan, Dante and Meyrick; paternal grandmother, Brenda Hamlin; maternal grandparents: Lynda and Edward Pitt; great grandparents: Rosie Mortensen, Jess Lightner, and Carolyn and Bill Shaw; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Kirby was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Rick Hamlin; and maternal grandfather, Blake Shaw. 

Private family services will be held.
