Annual meeting traditionally held in McIntosh on the ONU campus

The 2020 annual meeting of the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance goes virtual this year.

Traditionally, the event takes place in McIntosh Center on the Ohio Northern University campus.

Members interested in signing up may click here. The meeting is at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 25. The meeting includes a year in review and the Alliance business meeting.

 Eugene Wright,  71, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 8:05 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on January 19, 1950, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Okie and Alta (Puckett) Wright.  On Dec. 21, 1969, Eugene married Karen Meeker and she survives in Harrod.

Eugene retired from Proctor & Gamble after working for over 20 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Eugene was an advisor for over 20 years for the Allen County Junior Horseman 4-H Club.  He was a member of the A.Q.H.A.  Eugene was referred to as the last “Real Cowboy,” and Eugene was a life time mentor to others.  He was a loving husband, father, Papa and Great Papa. 

Ada HS stand out setting records at ONU

Outstanding Ada High school tennis player now a senior at ONU Mackenzie Wills tied Ohio Northern all-time career singles wins record, leading the Polar Bear women's tennis team to a 9-0 season-opening victory over Marietta on Saturday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 overall and are 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 0-1, 0-1.

Wills won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles for her 83rd career singles win, tying the record set by Meghan Letizia from 2012-16.

St. Patrick’s Day is approaching and Vancrest invites Ada youngsters to participate in a coloring contest to celebrate the event.

“We hope you will join us in a little St. Patrick’s Day fun,” said Jennifer Line, Vancrest activities director.

Women bow out in semi-final action

The Ohio Northern University men's basketball team advances  to OAC finals on Saturday. Meanwhile, the women's team bowed out in its semi-final contest. The recap of both games follow.

Sophomore Grant Heileman (Millersport/Sheridan) scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to an 81-75 victory over Muskingum in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The fifth-seeded Polar Bears (5-6 overall) advance to the OAC Tournament finals on Saturday and will play at top-seeded and No. 6-ranked Marietta at 7 p.m. at Ban Johnson Fieldhouse.

Ernest Samuel “Sam” Nitchie, 79, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 1:44 p.m. at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on Nov. 19, 1941, in Hunter, Kentucky, to the late John and Mattie Nitchie.  On April 4, 1969, Sam married Marilyn Clemons who survives in Ada.

Ohio, like the rest of the nation has seen a recent small spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. While this is disappointing since the numbers had being going down, there is hope with a third COVID-19 vaccine getting Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) this week.

The vaccines are working and more vaccines to the public means more protection from this pandemic.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness. You have probably heard of anxiety or know somebody that has anxiety. Everyone feels anxious, especially during stressful situations, but what is the distinction between having anxiety and not having anxiety?  

Somebody with anxiety has intense feelings of fear and distress preventing them from being able to do everyday tasks. People without anxiety only feel this way when they are in a particularly stressful situation.
