15 minutes getting caught up with Bailey Bowers

She's attending Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh and can tell you all about "everywhere, everyday chemicals"

The Icon recently caught up with Bailey Bowers, a 2013 Ada High School graduate now at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. We are sharing parts of our conversation with Icon viewers.

After you graduated from College of Wooster, we lost track of you. Please bring us up to date.
I'm currently attending Carnegie Mellon University to obtain my PhD in Chemistry. I’m aiming to defend my thesis in August 2022, which simultaneously feels very far off and panic-inducingly soon.

Virtual Driving simulator helps young drivers

Drive Time Driving Instruction is now part of a pilot program

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Mom is riding with her teenage student-driver son. She sees brake lights ahead. Her son continues to accelerate. She gasps. Grabs the ‘on crap’ handle. Son rolls his eyes. “I’ve got this, Mom.”

This is a common occurrence when in the car with a new driver. Is Mom being overly cautious? Is son being too aggressive? Maybe a little bit of both?

Students at Drive Time Driving Instruction, Bluffton, can now take an objective driving simulation to identify both what they are doing well, and what they could be doing better.  The simulator is an optional tool available to parents and students.

For the uninitiated, distance running might not seem like a pursuit that hinges on artistry, or even technique.

Stamina, strength, determination, high pain tolerance; these are the attributes of a distance runner. Don’t let the lithe body types fool you. Theirs is a brute force sport. And they are warriors.

Headaches
