BOWLING GREEN - Three Ada girls individuals and one relay quartet competed in the Div. II swim districts at the Bowling Green State University natatorium Friday.
Lady Bulldog sophomore Carlie Oldfield took fifth out of 32 swimmers in the 100 backstroke with a time that broke a 30-year old school record set by Tanya Nelson.
Oldfield's time of 61.36 shattered Nelson's 1991 Ada mark of 62.53 by 1.17 seconds. She shaved 1.39 off her sectional time as well.
Oldfield also swam the 50-yard freestyle at BG, and finished 11th out of 32 competitors.

Alice (Bailey) Hothem, 79, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at 6:41 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1941, in McGuffey, Ohio, to the late Jarvie and Hazel (Clark) Bailey. Alice married Howard Keith Hothem and he preceded her in death.
Alice retired from being a home health care provider. She was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger, Ohio since 1991. She was an avid gardener, loved to crochet and read.

DELPHOS - Ada sophomore guard Courtney Sumner received All-Northwest Conference girls basketball honors from league coaches in voting conducted at their annual selection meeting held recently.
Sumner led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring, steals, assists and three-point goals to earn honorable mention all-league notice.
The Lady Bulldogs finished their regular season 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the NWC.
Sumner also was named honorable mention all-league last season as a freshman.
Spencerville senior Emma Leis was selected the 2020-21 NWC Player of the Year in voting by the league coaches.

Ada Kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 school year will be done online using FinalForms this year, according to Ben Thaxton, elementary principal.
For families with a child who will be 5 on or before Aug. 1, 2021, the student is eligible for Kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year.
Registration takes place from March 1 to March 12. Parents are asked not to register until March 1, because the online window does not open until that date. Screening dates will be announced later.

The Ohio Northern men's and women's basketball teams have had schedule changes for this weekend's games.
Due to COVID-19 protocol issues with the Capital men's basketball team, the Polar Bear men's team will now have a hone-and-home series with Heidelberg.
ONU and HU will play at the ONU Sports Center on Friday at 7 pm and will play at Sieberling Gymnasium on Saturday at 6 pm.
To accommodate the men's home game on Friday, the Ohio Northern women will swap game sites with Capital this weekend, now playing at Capital on Friday at 7 pm and at home at the ONU Sports Center at 6 pm on Saturday.
