Ada boys nipped by late Paulding rush

Cook scored a game-high 19 points on the strength of 5 trifectas, and also dished out 5 assists.

ADA - Homestanding Ada led for much of the game but a late 16-8 run lifted Paulding to a 52-48 comeback win in Northwest Conference boys basketball makeup game action Saturday night.

Senior guard Blake McGarvey nailed seven consecutive free throws and scored the last eight Panther points over the final 4:04 to help the Panthers stave off upset-minded Ada.

"I don't want to celebrate a moral victory but we responded well to a poor performance the night before that ended badly," said Ada head coach Jon Cook. "We fought like crazy, and for the first 27 minutes out of 32 I thought we were the better team.

Four Ada girl swimmers make it to BG district

LIMA - The Ada varsity swim teams competed in flight two of the Div. II sectionals at the Lima YMCA natatorium Saturday.

Three Lady Bulldog individuals and one relay squad qualified for the district meet Friday evening at Bowling Green State University.    

"Weíre really happy with how everybody swam," noted Ada first-year head coach Katey Stuart. "We had some great time drops from the beginning of the season, and quite a few personal-best times." 

Sophomore Carlie Oldfield won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke races to pace the Lady Bulldogs.

VAN BUREN - The Ada varsity wrestling team competed in the Van Buren Duals event Saturday.

Bryan, Ashland Crestview, Shawnee, Cory-Rawson, Riverdale, Ada and North Baltimore also participated in the event.

Hardin educator vaccinations this week

John Kearns was a retired railroad brakeman

He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service

John K. Kearns, 85, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, at his residence in McGuffey.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1935, in Hardin County, Ohio to the late William and Helen (Ridgway) Kearns. On Dec. 27, 1958, John married Janet P. Risner and she survives in McGuffey.

John retired from the B&O Railroad where he worked as a brakeman. He later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the Roundhead VFW Post #8832 and the Kenton Moose Lodge #428.

School of Visual and Performing Arts presents stage production of "The House of Bernarda Alba"

The Ohio Northern University School of Visual and Performing Arts will present a staged production of “The House of Bernarda Alba” by Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca from Friday, Feb. 26, through  Sunday, Feb. 28, via livestream on freedcenter.com.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.

Drama synopsis
After the death of the family patriarch, well-to-do widow Bernarda Alba is determined to uphold the social propriety of the house and exacts an unyielding control over the lives of her five adult daughters.

ONU law grad appointed to Greene County court

Gov. DeWine names Amy Lewis as judge of common pleas

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of Amy H. Lewis to the Greene County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division.

Lewis received her law degree from Ohio Northern University, and undergraduate degree from University of Kentucky.   

Lewis, of Xenia, will assume office on March 1, 2021, and will be replacing Judge Adolfo Tornichio, who was appointed to the Greene County Court of Common Pleas, General Division. Lewis must run for election in November 2022 to complete the unexpired term ending December 31, 2024.

This morning I went downstairs and made my breakfast smoothie like I do every day. I sit down and eat breakfast with my parents on the weekends because we do not usually have anywhere to rush off to.

We talk about our plans for the day, or whatever is on our hearts. Sometimes, we immerse ourselves in some of the most high-minded conversations of my life. We talk about religion, philosophy, politics, celebrities, etc. There aren’t really any limits when it comes to our discourse.
