Karen Grant 1951 - 2021

Karen E. Grant, 69, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at 1:33 p.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on April 21, 1951, in Lima, Ohio to Elliott and Martha (McWhorter) Schoonover who preceded her in death. On Feb. 3, 1973, she married Carey L. Grant and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2013.

Karen retired in April of 2013 from the Allen County Recorder’s Office after working for 25 years.

Second shipment of vaccines now in Hardin County

The Kenton Hardin Health Department received its second shipment of COVID-19 vaccine last week and is holding a second closed clinic for EMS departments, primary care practices, pharmacies, and home health and hospice agencies located within Hardin County this week.

These Phase 1A groups have been selected to ensure emergency medical services are available to those in need and care is available for sick patients.

KENTON - The rusty Ada girls basketball team lost 44-33 at Hardin County rival Kenton Saturday in their first game of 2021.

Playing for the first time in 16 days, the Lady Bulldogs scored just 11 first half points but managed to hang within five points by intermission.

Kenton extended the lead to 10 heading to the fourth quarter, and basically held that margin to win by 11.

"I thought defensively we played pretty well as far as sticking to the game plan," said Ada third-year head coach Morgan Bass. "I just don't think we believe that we can win."

Icon national championship contest coming Tuesday

The Bluffton and Ada Icons will post a 2021 national championship college football contest on Tuesday. There will be one Bluffton Icon winner and one Ada Icon winner.

He was Ada's dentist for many second and third generation patients

Dr. Mark Shull died on Jan. 2 • He opened his dental practice in Ada in 1962, retiring in 2018

Dr. Mark Shull, DDS, 88, who practiced dentistry for 56 years in Ada, died on Jan. 2, 2021. 

The community recognized him in 2002, naming him Ada’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year. And, for over 55 years he was a member of the Ada Kiwanis Club.

Dr. Shull graduated from Capital University, the OSU Dental School, and served four and one-half years in the Army Dental Corps before opening his office in Ada in 1962.

Dr. Mark Shull was an Ada dentist for over 50 years

Mark B. Shull, DDS, 88, was called home to heaven on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, while he was at Otterbein Skilled Nursing in Cridersville, Ohio. 

Mark lived in Ada, Ohio for 56 years. He was born on Oct. 31, 1932, in Hicksville, Ohio, to the late Mark Benner and Ruth R. (Hurni) Shull.  His stepfather, George Hart, also precedes him in death.  On Aug. 28, 1955 Mark married Julia J. Fritz and she preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2016.

Mark was a dentist in Ada, as well as a dentist in the United States Army.  He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lima and the Ada Kiwanis Club.
