Sondra Stanley was a lacer at Wilson's

Sondra L. Stanley, 75, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 1:48 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1944, in Lima, Ohio to Louis L. and Georgia Lee (Embrecht) Kipker, Sr. who preceded her in death. 

On Dec 4, 1961, Sondra married Harvey L. Stanley and he died June 6, 2017.  

Sondra was a lacer at Wilson Sporting Goods and she attended the Alger Assembly of God church.

Surviving are a son: Tracey Stanley of Alger; a daughter: Stacey (Tom) Rhoades of Harrod; three brothers: Louis (Pat) Kipker, Jr. of Ada, Ron (Judy) Kipker of Findlay, and Eric (Linda) Kipker of Holland, Mich.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Color guard auditions, student physicals, student council updates

Here's some updates for Ada High School students for next week, from the school website:

Student Council elections are Monday, May 13.  If you are interested in being a part of Student Council, pick up a petition in the library. We anticipate having the following openings for the 2019-20 school year: 8th grade: 1, 9th grade: 2, 10th grade: 1, 11th grade: 3 and 12th grade: 3.

Athletic Physicals 2019-2020 School Year: OIO offers free athletic physicals to the local area junior high and high school students, grades 7-12, for the 2019-2020 school year. The physicals will be at the OIO Lima office Monday, May 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

If you need updated on the end-of-the-school-year dates for Ada, here's your answer. This is from the Ada school website:

Due to the number of school closings, the last day of school will now be Tuesday, May 28.

Students will now have school Friday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 28.

Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 27 so there will be no school that day.

We will have a 2-hour early release on the last day of school. Should we cancel an additional day of school before the last day, we will add an additional day to our calendar. We will have an early release on the last day of classes with students.

Reinvesting in life

Part of the ‘Living Through Loss’ Series at Blanchard Valley Hospital

The final presentation of the “Living through Loss” series will be held on Monday, May 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and titled “Reinvesting in Life: Discussing Growth, Reconciliation and Renewal.” This presentation will take place in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital located at 1900 South Main Street in Findlay.

Former ONU All-American Chris Matejka named interim head coach

Former Ohio Northern University All-American Chris Matejka has been named the interim head men's soccer coach at ONU.

Matejka has been an assistant coach for the Polar Bears for the past six seasons after graduating from Ohio Northern with a bachelor's degree in creative writing in 2013.

The Spencer, Ohio, native played in 96 games as a midfielder from 2009-12. He tallied 19 goals and 24 assists for 62 career points.

Matejka was named 3rd Team All-America and was the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Midfielder of the Year as a senior.

“Sprouting Hope” grief support program of children May 16

Bridge Home Health & Hospice, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, is offering a “Sprouting Hope” grief support program that allows children ages 6 to 12 to come together with their peers and participate in activities that will help them express their feelings, create lasting memories of their loved ones and have fun. 

This event will take place on Thursday, May 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Cessna Minutemen 4-H meet May 6

The Cessna Minutemen 4-H club held a meeting on May 6. Six members attended.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Peyton Breidenbach and the 4-H pledge was led by Preston Rembis. The roll call question was “What is your favorite type of skittle?”

The discussion was about 4-H camp and how the sign-ups are set for June 2 at 3 p.m.

Madison Breidenbach and Peyton Breidenbach did a demonstration on how to make a homemade lava lamp.

Brooke Vansky did a demonstration on how to sketch an eyeball.

Preston Rembis did a demonstration on how to correctly fold a flag.

The recreation game was hang man by Peyton Breidenbach.

ONU senior receives Wilson award

Ohio Northern senior Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) has been named the male recipient of the Wilson/ITA Promoter of the Year award.

Christian and Anastasia Rentouli of Mississippi State will receive a paid summer internship in the Grassroots Marketing department at Wilson's global headquarters in Chicago, Ill., for winning the award.

Kiwanis Club recognizes Shutt family and Kewpee

For its continued support of the club's pancake breakfast

Ada Kiwanis Club members took a lunch trip to Kewpee Restaurant, Lima, on May 7. The event was more than just an occasion to eat out.

The club thanked the Shutt family for its assistance in the Kiwanis pancake and sausage day events held each spring.

Joe Ferguson, Kiwanis president, thanked Kewpee’s Scott Shutt for his family’s generous to the pancake and sausage events.

He noted the success of previous year’s breakfasts and said that Kewpee sponsorships started in 2007, adding that profits from the project have increased significantly since 2007.
