Ada netters lauded at tennis banquet

ADA - The Ada tennis team held its spring post-season awards banquet at the school cafeteria Thursday, May 30.

Several special awards were handed out by first-year head coach Cody Hurley, who led the team to a 14-5 record this spring.

Two players received the Silver Racket Award, given to players who earned at least a 3.75 grade point average and a second or third letter.

Juniors Hunter Wells and Isaac Spar earned this honor.

Senior Cade Mullins, class of 2019 co-valedictorian, was given the Gold Racket Award for earning a fourth letter and a 4.0 GPA. He also served as the team captain.

Jonathan Lischak, Ada HS instrumental teacher, announces resignation

Ada school board approves three-year agreement with Ada Education Association

The follow report includes some action from the school’s May 29 Staff Notes, and is not officially approved board minutes.

Ada High School instrumental music teacher, Dr. Jonathan Lischak, announced his resignation from teaching. The action was accepted by the Ada school board in a special meeting on May 29.

In other action at the meeting, the board approved an agreement between the board and the Ada Education Association. The agreement covers three years from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022.

The board also accepted the resignation of Doug Miller, custodian.

Meet local EMS team at Alger Public Library on June 3

The local Upper Scioto Valley EMS will be coming to Alger Public Library on Monday, June 3 at 2 p.m. for members of the public to meet the hometown Emergency Medical Team (EMT). As part of this program, the squad offers a tour of their ambulance.

This program is open to the public, and children are especially invited. The library is located at 100 W. Wagner St., Alger.

Mid-Ohio Energy grant aids in Hardin County strategic planning

$10,000 grant help Hardin County villages and Kenton participate in strategic planning sessions

A $10,000 grant from Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative to the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance (HCCBA) will help Hardin County villages and the City of Kenton participate in strategic planning sessions.

"I'm excited because the plan for this grant allows us to make the biggest impact we can make for the entire county," said Jacqualine Fitzgerald, HCCBA's Director of Economic & Community Development.

Community screening and wellness day June 22

The Armes Family Cancer Care Center, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will offer a community screening and wellness day event on Saturday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Several health screenings will be offered at this event, which will take place at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center located at 15990 Medical Drive South in Findlay.

Skin, head and neck cancer screenings will be available by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling 419.429.6428.

Screenings available by walk-in include breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, bone density, hereditary cancer risk assessment, and general wellness including glucose and blood pressure checks.

It's ONU's alumni weekend

Ohio Northern University celebrates its alumni weekend May 31 to June 2. Here's the schedule of events.

The Class of 1969 will have a special celebration dinner on Friday, May 31, for their 50th Class Year Reunion. All other classes celebrating 55, 60, 65 and 70 years will also have celebrations at the reception before the Alumni Association Luncheon on Saturday, June 1.

Reserve champ and more

Sidney Gossard, Ada HS student, showed her lambs recently at The Clover Classic in Coldwater, Michigan, and won both of her classes in both shows that day. 

On Sunday she showed her lambs at Cassopolis, Michigan, at the Southwest Michigan Showdown where she was Reserve Champion overall and 5th overall.

"Noteworthy Community Choir is accepting registrations for its first-ever Summer Sounds Choral Camp for kids who love to sing," says Vicki Mills.

Here's how it works:
From July 15 to July 19, 1st through 8th graders participate in singing and movement experiences, weaving a high-quality choral music experience with fun musical activities and camp friendships. 

And, 3rd to 8th graders will have recorder and Orff instrument classes, while 1st and 2nd grade campers have a morning full of songs and musical activities tailored toward their age group – with everyone gathering for a camp concert on Friday, July 19, at 12:30 p.m.

Miriam Rumsey was a graduate of LaFayette High School

D. Miriam Rumsey died on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Miriam was born in Lafayette, Ohio, on Dec. 21, 1925, to Warren and Lelah (Stanyer) Knoble who are deceased. She married Roy Rumsey on June 21, 1946, and he died on June 1, 1985.
