Women’s soccer at home Saturday

Saturday's Match Preview: The Ohio Northern women's soccer team returns home Saturday afternoon as the Polar Bears play host to the Thomas More (Ky.) Saints in nonconference action ... Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium in Ada ... Ohio Northern enters this weekend's competition sporting a 4-2-0 overall record and riding a current four-game win streak.

Elzay Art Gallery hosts "Women's Rights Are Human Rights"

The current show at the Elzay Gallery of Art is titled “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: International Posters on Gender-based Inequality, Violence and Discrimination.” Gallery hours are daily from 1–4:30 p.m.

Madonna adds football

LIVONIA, Mich. - ​Madonna University President Michael Grandillo, an ONU graduate, joined Athletics Director Scott Kennell at Thursday’s news conference to announce that the university will add football to its intercollegiate athletics program, bringing the total offerings to 20 teams.

The Crusaders compete in the 12-school Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is the ninth sport added under Grandillo’s leadership, following the addition of eight teams in 2015.

ONU football at Otterbein Saturday

Saturday's Contest: Saturday's contest is ONU's first road game of the 2018 season and is Homecoming at OU. ONU is 534-492-36 in 124 seasons of play, a winning percentage of .518. ONU is riding a solid 5-game winning streak, which includes the final two games of 2017.

ONU Head Coach Dean Paul: Paul is in his 15th season at ONU with a 99-48 record. Paul is ONU's all-time winningest coach in ONU football history. He is 139-60 in 18 seasons overall and is 11-3 against OU.

OU head coach Tim Doup: Doup is in his 7th season at OU with a 34-28 record. He is 1-5 against ONU.

Knights blank Ada boys

VAN BUREN - The Ada boys soccer team was shut out 3-0 at Van Buren Thursday evening.

The loss dropped the Bulldog record to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in NCOSA play.

Keeper Drew Hadley was credited with 14 saves in goal for Ada.

The Bulldogs (1-0 NWC) visit league-leading Bluffton (5-0-3, 3-0 NWC) Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. under the lights.

Ada spikers fall to T-Birds

ADA - The Ada volleyball team lost a four-set match to visiting ex-league rival Lima Central Catholic Thursday night in a very hot gym.

The Lady Bulldog spikers fell to 8-5 with the 25-13, 25-20, 18-25, 25-15 defeat that snapped their four-match win streak. LCC improved to 9-5 after the hard-fought win.

"We were slow starting off in the first set, not moving our feet well," said Ada head coach Kyleigh Tabor. "After that our defense picked up and serve receive was solid. I was happy with our defense.

Bulldog linksters at NWC championship meet

DEFIANCE - League regular season champion Spencerville won the Northwest Conference golf tournament title Thursday at the Auglaize Golf Club in Defiance.

Spencerville posted three of the top five individual scores to win the event with 315 strokes, followed by Paulding (343) and Lincolnview (344).

Ada and Crestview each totaled 409 strokes to tie for eighth. But the Knights won a fifth-man tiebreaker 112-132 to officially finish eighth, while the Bulldogs ended up ninth.

Bulldog junior Ethan Hull posted the best 18-hole Ada score at 43-48=91. Hull earned honorable mention all-league notice.

Wilson Sporting Good garage sale Sept. 29

By 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, hundreds of people will be in a line near Wilson Sporting Good Co. factory on East Liberty Street. They are there to get bargains on footballs, basketballs, baseball gloves, golf and tennis items, and equipment for many other sports.

The sale runs from 8 a.m. until noon for parents and grandparents looking for Christmas gifts for kids, for coaches, and for many other reasons. Is the sale worth going to? The hundreds of people who attend will attest to the fact that, “Yes it is.”

Dogs enjoyed the Harvest and Herb Fest, as well as their owners. It’s a day for puppies to see lots of sights and smells from the aroma of funnel cakes to bees wax. A few dogs met up with their furry friends from the new Ada Dog Park.

Ada is not a particularly dog friendly town compared to other places. You’ll see “No Dogs Allowed” on several businesses. However, those working in the village government offices are always glad to see pooches.

Alger Library free movie event

The Alger Library’s Free Family Movie Night will be held on Friday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.  The featured film will be “Avengers: Infinity War”.  A free snack will also be provided. All are welcome.
