Albert Baillis taught in the ONU law college for 35 years

He was a member of Ada Kiwanis Club for 60 years

Albert A. Baillis, retired ONU law professor, 94, died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at 10:58 p.m. at his residence in Ada. He was a member of the law faculty for 35 years. He was a member of the Ada Kiwanis Club for 60 years.

He was born on May 11, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Roy and Leona (Nouser) Baillis. 

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada, and  was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Ada Kiwanis Club. 

Surviving is a nephew, Dan (Debra) Baillis of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Fred Baillis and Louis Baillis. 

“Romeo and Juliet” coming to The Freed Center stage

The ONU theatre department will present “Romeo and Juliet” Sept. 27 through Sept. 30 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 through Sept. 29, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30.

Theis, licensed since 2008, has held various positions in the insurance industry.

Women’s soccer at home Tuesday

 

Tuesday's Match Preview: The Ohio Northern women's soccer program wraps up its 2018 nonconference slate and a brief two-match home stand when the Polar Bears welcome in Wittenberg Tuesday evening ... Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium in Ada ... Northern enters Tuesday's affair sporting a 5-2-0 overall record and riding a current five-match win streak dating back to September 8 ... All five victories this season have come via shutouts of the opposing teams ... The Polar Bears are coming off a 3-0 weekend victory over Thomas More (Ky.) at Kerscher Stadium .

Wills (Ada) competes in regional tourney

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Senior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) led a solid performance by the Ohio Northern women's tennis team at the ITA Central Regional tournament Friday-Sunday.

Ochsenhirt went 2-1 in singles and was 3-3 overall to lead the Polar Bears at the non-scoring event.

Freshman Olivia Schrager (Dayton/Miami Valley) went 2-2 in singles, junior Mackenzie Wills (Ada) was 1-1 in singles and junior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) was 1-2 in singles play.

All four women posted 1-2 doubles records with Ochsenhirt and Wills combining on one team and Schrager and Curry on another doubles tandem.

Golf finishes 6th of 9 teams

The Ohio Northern men's golf team finished sixth of nine teams at the Bluffton Fall Classic Saturday at Bluffton Golf Club and Sunday at Hidden Creek Golf Club.

The Polar Bears (7-15) finished with a 314-300—614 for the 36 holes, and were just 11 strokes off the lead.

Senior Joshua Turich (Centerville) led ONU with a 5-over par 76-73-149 to finish seventh of 52 golfers.

Women’s golf wins tourney

Sophomore Lydia Cranmer fired a final round career-low 74 to win Medalist honors and lead the Ohio Northern women's golf team to victory at the 8-team Bluffton Fall Classic Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Polar Bears (19-1 overall) finished with a 345-342—687 to edge Franklin (Ind.) by three strokes.

Short-handed Ada visits Grove Fri.

ADA - Injury-plagued Ada visits surging Columbus Grove for a week six battle Friday in just their second road game of the season.

Grove has won three straight after starting the season with consecutive losses to a pair of 5-0 teams, Pandora-Gilboa and Leipsic. They have outscored their opposition 109-43 during their win streak.

CG (3-2, 2-0 NWC) took advantage of Knight miscues to upset state-ranked Crestview 33-20 on the road in week five. They are one of only two remaining unbeatens in league play, as Grove sits atop the NWC along with Spencerville at 2-0.
