Men’s golf schedule announced

The Ohio Northern University men's golf team is scheduled to raise the curtain on their 2018 fall slate under sixth-year head coach Chad Bucci when they travel to take part in the Northwestern Ohio Fall Classic August 31.

ONU returns to action quickly when they host the Polar Bear Fall Classic on September 1-2, the first of two home events this fall.

Additionally, the Polar Bears will serve as the host site for the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Championship from October 5-6 at nearby Colonial Golfers Club.

Men’s lacrosse led nation in scoring defense

The Ohio Northern University men's lacrosse program has been recognized by the NCAA national office as the Division III statistical champion for scoring defense during the 2017-18 season.

The Polar Bears recorded the top mark after conceding just 5.59 goals per contest, which topped second-place finisher Hope College's scoring defense (5.88) by .29 during the year.

During their eight-game conference schedule, Northern would hold OAC foes to just 5.13 goals per game.

Ohio Northern receives preseason votes

The Ohio Northern football team received votes in the 2018 D3football.com preseason poll, released on Thursday. This marks the 15th time in the last 17 seasons that the Polar Bears have been been mentioned in a national poll.

The Polar Bears received 14 points in the poll, which is the 36th-most among the 48 schools mentioned in the poll. A year ago, Northern received 11 votes and were ranked No. 22 in the 2016 preseason D3football.com poll.

Ohio Northern went 7-3 overall and tied for second in the OAC with a 6-3 mark in 2016.

Yikes! Band camp starts Monday

Is the 2018-19 school year closer than we think?

The Ada High School Marching Band and Flag Corps will conclude its two-week band camp with a free performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, in the parking lot behind the school.

This year’s theme is about space and the planets featuring music from English composer Gustav Holst’s most famous work, a suite entitled “The Planets.”

   • Sunscreen out?
   • Grill fired up?

The 4th of July usually means pool parties, boat rides, BBQs, and relaxation.

So, how do you eat healthy amidst all the hot dogs, chips and ice cream?

First step is to practice mindful eating. “Mindful eating is a technique that helps you gain control over your eating habits. It has been shown to cause weight loss, reduce binge eating and help you feel better”

Women’s golf to open at Colonial

Ohio Northern University will open the 2018 fall women's golf schedule under sixth-year head coach Chad Bucci by hosting the Polar Bear Fall Classic Sept. 1-2 at Colonial Golfers Club located west of Ada.

 

Northern will then compete in the Defiance Fall Classic (Sept. 8-9), at Heidelberg (Sept. 15-16), the Bluffton Fall Invitational (Sept. 22-23), and in the annual OAC Fall Preview (Sept. 29-30). The spring golf schedule will be released at a later date.

FROM ONU DEPARTMENT OF ART AND DESIGN FACEBOOK - Last week, Ohio Northern University Professor Luke Sheets was part of an international team of sculptors in Denmark working on the vision of Sten Lykke Madsen.

Luke reports, “We spent about five days building the two-meter, 500 kg sculpture. It dried for several days and was fired with gas for two additional days before switching to wood. [Last Friday, we brought] the final temperature to around 1280 degrees C.

Ada HS band presents free show July 20

The Ada High School Marching Band and flag corps is preparing an out-of-this-world experience for those who attend their shows this coming school year.

This year’s band show is about space and the planets, featuring music from Gustav Holst’s suite titled “The Planets.”

A free show is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, in the back parking lot of the school for those who want a glimpse of the upcoming season. On Monday, band and flags members began an intensive two-week camp at the school to prepare for 2018-19 school year. They are practicing from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
