Hardin County family picnic

The Hardin County Democratic Party is hosting a family picnic in the Ada War Memorial Park on Saturday, June 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

There will be games such as whack-a-rat, football toss, cornhole, flip cup, straw drop, pin the tail on a donkey, straw puzzles and many more. Games are free to play.

There will be hot dogs, sausages, chips, applesauce, ice cream and cookies served to eat. 

Families are welcome to bring their own picnic.

A free will donation will be accepted.

Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a completed physical form. Physicals cost $25 payable by check or cash at the scheduled appointment.

Ada girls knock off Raiders in district semis

ELIDA - Ada jumped ahead of Wayne Trace and held off a late rally to win 4-2 in Div. IV softball district semifinal action at Elida Wednesday evening.

The second-seeded Lady Bulldogs improved to 16-8 with the victory, which broke the program single-season record for wins.

The victory sets up an all-Northwest Conference district final. Second-seeded Ada next will face Columbus Grove (18-4) with a berth in the regional semis at Findlay on the line.

Ada's Everhart 1st team All-NWC

DELPHOS - Ada senior shortstop Aaron Everhart was named first team All-Northwest Conference for baseball in voting conducted by the league coaches Monday night at Delphos.

 

Over 20 games in 2018, the versatile Everhart led the Bulldogs in several categories. He paced the team with a .500 batting average, and also led in stolen bases (28), hits (24) and runs scored (18). He topped Ada in on-base pct. (.613) as well.

 

Everhart added a dozen walks, four doubles, a triple and seven runs batted in.

 

Ada's Gossard, Newland named first team All-NWC; Alexander 2nd team

DELPHOS - Ada seniors Maddie Gossard and Sydney Newland were each named first team All-Northwest Conference for softball in voting by the league coaches Monday night at Delphos.

 

By voting time third baseman Gossard had batted .542, hammered a team-high eight home runs, drilled 17 doubles and drove in a team-high 43 runs. She slugged at a squad-leading 1.069 clip.

 

Ada's Beaschler rolls to district semis

BOWLING GREEN - Ada senior tennis ace Zach Beaschler won his first two matches easily at the Div. II district tournament in Bowling Green on Wednesday.

With the victories, Beaschler advanced to the semifinals Saturday at BG, and clinched his third straight berth in the state tournament.

"Zach got off to a great start to go into the semifinals; he has qualified for the state tournament and now can go into Saturday focused on his two matches," said Ada head coach Christy Beaschler.

Beaschler ran his season record to 22-0 with a pair of straight-set wins. He won 24 games and lost only one in the lopsided victories.

2 compete in Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Senior Alex Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.) and junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) each competed on the first day of Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team on Wednesdayafternoon.

No team scores were kept in the meet.

Sibila led the way, tying his career-high mark in the high jump with a fourth place finish and leap of 6' 7".

McVey competed in the 5,000-meter run, where he finished 10th overall in 14:52.18.

Reed wins pole vault

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) won the pole vault, while sophomore Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) finished third in the event to lead the No. 9-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team on day one of the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon.

No team scores were kept in the meet.

Reed won the event with a vault of 12' 10.75", while Krause finished third in the event with a leap of 12' 6.75".

2 gain regional softball honors

Ohio Northern seniors Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) and Jenna Hollar (Lima/Bath) were named Second Team All-Central Region in voting conducted by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

 

Lightel is now a four-time All-Region honoree and a four-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference award winner.

She is ONU's all-time career leader with 512 strikeouts and a 1.45 ERA and her 66 victories tied the ONU career mark.

She pitched in 103 games during her four seasons as a Polar Bears, posting a 66-22 record with three saves and pitched a school record 602.1 innings.
