What are Ada Schools doing to keep all of those safe at the school? In light of the recent deadly shooting at a school in Florida, Ada Schools Superintendent Meri Skilliter recently posted a message on Facebook that describes efforts that have been undertaken in the past and more recently. She wrote:
“This is a bulleted list of things I came up with yesterday. I have to believe there are other things I didn’t think of. I also think that our administrators, teachers, counselors and our other staff really work to get to know students and know which students need extra love and attention, etc.
ArtSpace/Lima will host the 30th annual Kewpee High School Art Invitational from Feb. 23 to April 7. Eight Ada students have had 9 pieces selected.
Sumaya Tasnim had two pieces selected while Calle Young, Johnathan Rettig, Keli Trudeau, Klava Katayama, Kendal Guagenti, Kylie Guagenti, and Noah Mattson each had one piece selected.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Kewpee hamburgers and cheeseburgers will be served at the reception, as well as Februcherry pie. Awards will be presented at 7:15 p.m.
DELPHOS - Ada senior Maddie Gossard was named honorable mention All-Northwest Conference in girls basketball by the league coaches in voting recently conducted at the annual selection meeting in Delphos.
Gossard led the Bulldogs in scoring, rebounds and three-point field goals made. The 5-8 wing will attend Heidelberg University next fall and play softball.
Senior Paige Motycka of second-place Crestview repeated as a first team all-league selection and was named NWC Player of the Year.
The Lady Knights finished in a three-way tie for second with Bluffton and Spencerville at 6-2, a game behind Columbus Grove.
The ONU women’s team will play their next OAC tourney game at home at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ohio Northern enters Thursday evening's semifinal matchup after a 76-60 victory over Wilmington.
The Polar Bears are making their league-best 32nd appearance in the OAC Tournament. The Polar Bears have won the OAC Tournament title four times, most recently in 2016-17. ONU is 25-27 all-time in the tournament.
The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team has high expectations entering the 2018 season.
Third-year head coach Beth Hemminger welcomes back nine starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's injury-plagued squad that went 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Polar Bears played games with as many as six starters sidelined by injury last year, but Hemminger believes the added experience for the younger players will pay off this season.

For the last four years, fans and community members have filled the stands at War Memorial Park on fall Friday nights, eager to watch not only their hometown team, but also one of northwest Ohio’s hidden gems.
As the air got cool and the leaves turned red, they gathered to watch one of the state’s most entertaining offenses -- one that passed the ball on nearly every down. They gathered to watch a team that consistently fought for Northwest Conference championships. And in large part, they gathered to watch the six-foot-nothing, gunslinging quarterback that led the way.
Hays Insurance was honored as Ada Area Chamber of Commerce business of the year during the Chamber’s annual meeting today (Feb. 21) during a luncheon in McIntosh Center.
Rebecca Hunt, a representative from Secretary of State John Husted’s office, also presented Chad with a certificate of commendation.
Chad Hays purchased Hays Insurance Agencies from Bruce Hays in January 2017. Hays Insurance features independent agents. The business was started by Bruce and Brad Hays in 1983. Chad entered the business after graduating from ONU in 1999 and was a partner with Bruce for 18 years.
Ohio Northern will present five performances of "The Wolves," a play by Sarah Delappe, from Thursday, Feb.22, through Sunday, Feb. 25.
This new play features a girls' indoor soccer team and offers a window into the world of adolescent female relationships. Nine girl warriors fiercely grapple with one another over issues great and small in a series of scenes that occur during pre-game warm ups.
