Men play in OAC tourney at Marietta on Thursday
The Polar Bears are the No. 3 seed in the OAC tournament. Northern has won the OAC tournament five times in its history, most recently in 2001.
Ohio Northern pulled away in the final 10 minutes to post an 81-60 victory over Capital in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Seniors Nate Burger and Joey DiOrio each scored 19 points. Burger's 19 points gives him 642 for the season, breaking the previous school record of 634 points set by 1995 NCAA Division III National Player of the Year D'Artis Jones. Burger is currently second in the OAC and is ninth nationally, averaging 24.7 ppg.
In the latest D3hoops.com rankings, Marietta is the No. 2 seed and shared the league title with John Carroll with a 14-4 record. The Pioneers advanced to the semifinals with an 86-71 victory over seventh-seeded Wilmington on Tuesday.
