This is how you decorate a church for Christmas

Mom Caitlin Porter shows 4-year-old twins, Ada and Clair, and sister, Lucy, how battery-operated candles work.

The youngsters helped on Sunday morning during the Ada United Methodist Church hanging of the greens for the Christmas season. The church uses 100 candles, many trees, much garland, and a number of wreaths in its seasonal decoration.

Pamela J. Risner, 1953 - 2017

 Pamela J. Risner, age 64, died on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 9:17 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

          She was born on November 8, 1953 in Allen County, Ohio to the late Richard H. and Helen C. (Halker) Zeller.  On February 18, 1971 in Harrod, Ohio Pam married Charles E. Risner and he survives in Alger.

Billy Joe Murphy, 1934 - 2017

Billy Joe Murphy, age 83, died on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 12:35 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

          He was born on March 17, 1934 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Andrew and Pearl (Creekmore) Murphy.  On October 5, 1956 Billy married Donna E. Brooks and she survives in Ada.

          Billy retired from Scot Lad Foods where he worked as a truck driver.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean War.  He was a member of the LaFayette Missionary Baptist Church.  Billy was a member of the Sager Lodge F&AM #513, a former holder of the 32nd Degree Mason of Dayton and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star #121.

January and February 1930:

January 1930 Sororities were given recognition at Ohio Northern University.

February 1930 within 20 minutes from the time a big crane started to work, a new Pennsylvania railroad bridge weighing 300 tons was in position across Grass Run east of Ada.

February 1930 the Theta Phi Delta sorority established a home at 503 South Johnson Street. It was the first to establish a home after reactivation went into effect.

Icon dog of the week - Chompers

Meet Chompers. Chompers is a 3 year old Mastiff mix. He is a darling. Weighs in at 74 pounds. Is a true lap dog. Will grace any sofa! Good with kids! Can you give Chompers his forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

Percussion music set for Tuesday

Five ONU Percussion ensembles will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Presser Hall. The program is free and open to the public. The groups include the ONU Percussion Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, African Dance and Drumming Ensemble, the newly-formed Samba Band and an Ada favorite, the Wild Steelions.

Free coats today at ReStore

Patti Risner, ReStore store manager, holds a new winter coat for a child. Today, the ReStore Community Center will begin giving away new coats donated by the Knights of Columbus in Kenton. New hats, mittens, gloves, and boots, donated by the Ada First United Methodist Church and the Hardin County Foundation, will also be given away to those in need.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa at Bluffton Primary Care Dec. 4

Bluffton Primary Care, 161 Garau St., will host a community open house featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus on Monday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The community is invited to visit the newly renovated office and meet the physicians and care team.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. with the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. Children who are visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus will receive a gift while supplies last.
