Edgar Allan Poe Halloween weekend coming to The Inn at ONU

Evening includes appetizers, dessert and theatrical adaptations of Poe's works

The Inn at ONU features three performances of “Shadows of Poe,” during Halloween weekend.

“Shadows of Poe” is an original work created by Octopus Productions, based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Persons will be treated to original live theatrical adaptations of “The Raven,” and “The Tell Take Heart.”

The Northwest Ohio Theatre Fraternal Association presents the performances Thursday, Oct. 27, Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29 at The Inn at ONU.

Appetizers are offered at 6:30 p.m. and the production begins at 8 p.m. each evening.

Lynne Scott claims she "writes in her spare time"

Lynne Scott owns and operates a kennel, teaches six Zumba classes, and writes in her "spare time." At the Ada Rotary Club meeting and lunch on Tuesday at The Inn, she talked about writing.

In addition to taking care of her two dogs, four cats, a farmhouse on several acres, and being an excellent cook, somehow she has managed to write five books, a novella, and a screenplay.

How does she write so much? She gives these two tips to would-be writers.

Level 2 Food Safety Training now on line

Proctored certification exam may be taken in Ada

Don’t have the time to sit through a Level 2 Food Safety Training?  Can’t find one near you?  We have the answer!

OSU Extension has partnered with TAP (Training Achievement Program) Series to offer an on-line version of Level 2 Food Safety training which meets all ODH requirements.

You can complete the online course at your own speed and at a time that works for you. Once training is completed, you will take a proctored certification exam in Kenton or Ada.  One purchase, one trip.

The March 2017 deadline to meet this requirement is coming fast.

ONU Symphony Orchestra concert moved to 8:15 p.m.

The ONU Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday night, Oct. 15, at Freed Center will begin at 8:15  p.m.instead of 7:30 p.m., due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, according to Dr. Becky Casey.

She said, "The Music Department would like to extend the offer of one free beverage, for all Symphony Orchestra concert-goers at the ONU Inn prior to the concert, from 7:15 to 8 p.m. that evening.

Dr. Jason Hageman, M.D., of Ada Family Medicine, spoke to 35 people at Community Health Professionals on Thursday during Lunch and Learn about preventing falls.

Falls annually cause 750,000 Americans to seek care in a hospital at a cost of $34 billion.

He said that if you have fallen in the past year you are more likely to fall again. He said to seek medical attention right away, especially if there is a head injury.

Falling can be caused by many things, many of which can be eliminated.

Here's a game preview:

Saturday's Contest: Saturday's game is the sixth game of the season and the second home contest of the year for Ohio Northern. It is also the third night game in Dial-Roberson Stadium history.

ONU Head Coach Dean Paul: Paul in his 13th season at ONU with an 86-43 record. He is 126-55 in 17 seasons overall and is 8-4 against JCU.

JCU Head Coach Tom Arth: Arth is in his fourth season at JCU with a 32-7 record. He is 3-1 against ONU.

$7,000 in cash prizes in Bluffton business competition

2016 winner was Easter House Bed and Breakfast, Ada

Cash and in-kind awards valued at $7,000 are prizes in Bluffton Center For Entrepreneurs’ 2017 Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition, announced this week by BCE.

The contest's Start-up Division offers a $4,000 first place, $1,000 second place and $500 third place cash awards, in addition to several in-kind prizes. It is open to contestants from Allen, Hancock, Putnam and Hardin counties.

The contest's Small Business Improvement Division, open to established businesses located the 45817 zip area, offers a $1,000 first place cash prize, in addition to several in-kind prizes.

Liberty Baptist revival services Oct. 12 -16

Liberty Baptist Church will have an October Revival at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, through Saturday, Oct 15, at the church which is located at SR 235 and CR 20 north of Ada.

Pastor Lon Taylor said the revival will continue on Sunday, Oct. 16, during Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., the worship service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a carry-in dinner and an afternoon service.

There will be no Sunday evening service this Sunday.
Pastor Ron Blair of Bonnieville, Ky., will be the evangelist for the revival series. All are welcome.

The Apollo Cosmetology Salon and Spa will open Wednesday, Oct. 12.  The Salon is open 8 to 10:45 a.m.  Services offered include color, cut, styling, perms, manicures pedicures and artificial nails. The Apollo Spa is open 11:40 a.m.- 2:25 p.m. Call 419.998.2901 to set up an appointment for all services. Appointments will be available Wednesday-Friday.
