The NED Shows coming to Ada elementary next Friday

Ada Kindergarteners through fifth grader will see the NED Show assembly on Friday, Oct. 21.

The NED Show is a character education program that centers around three important messages that have lifelong relevance:
• Never give up,
• Encourage others and
• Do your best.

During the assembly, students will learn about the importance of these three life skills while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humor and yo-yo tricks.

Forensic scientist? Baker? Culinary artist? How about a teaching career? Kim Smittle has been working 31 years providing classroom experiences that make a lasting impression with her students.

I am very involved with the music department.

ReStore coat give-away in process

And stop in for popcorn on Halloween trick-or-treat night

Lots of events are planned at ReStore, 210 N. Main St., Ada, in October.

These include:
• Winter coat give-away
• Handing out popcorn to trick-or-treaters on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations are in the planning stages, according to Robet Kanzig, interim director.

Mary Moyer Criblez was a graduate of Lafayette High School

Mary Moyer Criblez, 71, died Oct. 13, 2016, following a stroke, 10 years to the week of the death of her husband, Thomas L. Criblez of Bluffton.

She was born March 8, 1945, in Lima to Adrian and Beulah (Roberts) Moyer who preceded her in death. Her sister, Janice Kuldau also preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Arthur Higbee) Criblez of Saratoga, Calif., and Sally Criblez of Bethesda, Md.; her sister, Nancy Saddler of Harrod; her brother, Carl (Nolene) Moyer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandsons, Gabriel, Jackson and Grant Higbee of Saratoga, Calif.

Ada FFA fruit sale underway until Nov. 14

Delivers made week of Dec. 7

The Ada High School Future Farmers of America fruit sale is underway. The sale runs from Oct. 13 to Nov. 14.

Items include oranges, grapefruit and apples. Deliverly is the week of Dec. 7. Contact any Ada High School FFA member to place an order.

Ada High School and junior high choral students are selling yummy, delicious treats from the The Dough Hook, bakery, deli and meat market, Bluffton, as their fall fundraiser.

Items include:
Fresh-baked pies
cinnamon rolls
cookie doughs
Guggisberg baby Swiss cheese wheel and
Johnsville summer sausage.

The October meeting of the Ada JCL was hosted by Myra Berger and Linda Staley at the Ada Visiting Nurse with eight members present.  The meeting was called to order by President Linda Ferguson. 

The speakers for the evening included Amanda Bennett and Connie Fleming from the Ada Public Library.  Amanda thanked the club for our donation towards the summer reading program’s, she then spoke about the 5-year renewal levy for the library. 

Boys' soccer: Van Buren shuts out Ada

VAN BUREN - Host Van Buren shut out Ada 8-0 in a North Central Ohio Soccer
Association boys soccer match Thursday evening.

Ada keeper Ace Gamble was credited with seven saves in goal.

The Bulldogs fell to 7-7-1 overall, and finished 3-4 in NCOSA play with
the loss.

Ada hosts Lima Senior in a non-league match Saturday at 1 p.m. to finish
its regular season.

"The Shape of Things" on Stambaugh Studio Theatre stage

Comtemporary play Oct. 27-30 at ONU

The Ohio Northern University Department of Theatre Arts will present “The Shape of Things,” a classic contemporary play by Neil LaBute, Oct. 27 through Oct. 30 in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

A pre-show discussion of the play will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27, followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. Other performances will be 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Quiz bowl team wins preliminary matches

Here's an update on Ada school events from the school website:

Congratulations to the high school quiz bowl team who defeated Bath and Celina in the preliminary matches of WTLW's Quiz Whiz competition. The team returns for final four competition tomorrow night.

There will be a meeting for 8th grade Beta Club members on Friday during junior high lunch at noon. in Mrs. Thaxton's room.  If you would like to run for the office of president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer, pick up a nomination form from Mrs. Thaxton by Thursday. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Thaxton.
