Ohio Northern University is currently registering organizations, businesses and residents for its fourth annual Ada Civic Engagement (ACE) Day to be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.
A partnership with the village of Ada, the ACE Day program provides opportunities for ONU’s first-year students to not only engage with the community but also contribute to the village’s beautification.
There will be a 5-Day Club for boys and girls 5 to 12 years old from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, at 924 Christopher Circle.
The clubs are a Bible-centered ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship, which is active in 163 countries.
The clubs feature Bible lessons, songs, games, activities, memory verses, and prizes.

The 102nd annual Ada Farmers’ and Merchants’ Picnic takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8 in the War Memorial Park.

In the coming weeks, you may see Village Water and Street Department crews working on fire hydrants throughout the village.
A sign that this work is going on may be water running down the street. If you happen to encounter the running water, please steer clear of the stream, regardless if you are in a car, on a bike or on foot.
Flushing the water hydrant system is a routine maintenance activity.
Over time, sediment deposits may accumulate in the complex water system. These deposits are naturally occurring, and are a result of the minerals in water reacting with the inside of the water pipes.
Douglas G. Ellison, age 48, formerly of Ada, died on Monday, July 20, 2015 in Huntsville, Ohio.
He was born on July 28, 1966 in Lima, Ohio to Joseph and Alice Mae (Knight) Ellison, Jr. who preceded him in death.
Doug had previously worked in the manufacturing industry. He was a 1985 graduate of Ada High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Doug is survived by his siblings: John (Mary Ann) Ellison of Wiscasset, ME, Jeannie (Marion) Myers of Lima and Judith (Jerry) Stambaugh of Leslie, AR; several nieces and nephews.
Bluffton’s fireworks, postponed in late June due to the weather, is rescheduled for 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Bluffton’s National Night Out celebration at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.
The fireworks will cap off the National Night Out. The display should last between 20 and 30 minutes.
The National Night Out and fireworks will take place on Snider Road, Bluffton. Watch for a map indicating locations where people can watch the display.
A Weight Watchers group is forming this summer in Ada. The group meets at the Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main St., Ada each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Lisa McCumber is in charge. She said, "You may sit in a meeting for free. Change your relationship with food for good. Meetings are fun and motivating."

The Ada Kiwanis meets at noon every Tuesday.
Plans for the Kiwanis-sponsored Pedal Tractor Pull at the Farmers and Merchants Picnic are underway.
The event is Saturday Aug. 8. The tentative schedule for club members is as follows: The pull will be from 11 a.m. till 1p.m.; set-up at 10 a.m.; and registration at 10:30 a.m.
