Kenneth D. Fleming, 1961-2015

Kenneth D. “Kenny” Fleming, age 54, died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 3 p.m. at his residence in Ada. He was born on February 9, 1961 in Kenton to Wayne E. and Constance “Connie” (Conley) Fleming who preceded him in death.

Kenny was a farmer around Ada his entire life. He loved the outdoors, fishing and baseball. He is survived by his daughter, Kira Fleming of Columbus; two grandchildren: Logan and Clover; and a sister, Sharon (Tim) Walsh of Lima.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Courtnie Morton officiating. Inurnment of ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Several Ada connections in "Eat Fresh, Eat Local Hardin County" campaign

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance unveiled a new Farm-to-Table logo and marketing campaign to promote new agribusiness opportunities in Hardin County, as local farmers and growers are producing locally grown food for consumers. The event was Friday.

"Eat Fresh, Eat Local Hardin County" is the motto of the marketing campaign.

This announcement was tied together with the Alliance Membership Appreciation Day Luncheon, were members were treated to a barbecue lunch prepared by Chef David Wagner of the Plaza Inn Family Restaurant.

Kenneth Lawrence, 1936-2015

Kenneth E. Lawrence, age 78, died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 3:38 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on August 26, 1936 in Bluffton to Christopher Paul and Elvira (Gratz) Lawrence who preceded him in death. On September 9, 1956 he married Sondra D. McCluer and she died on December 23, 2009.

Okay, you know Ada, then name the business in the Betz building

Ben Bowers is at it again. 

Earlier this summer we suggested to Ben that he located some familiar, but, "well, I'm not really certain where this scene is to be found in Ada" photos.

So far he has tossed several photos at Icon viewers including one from the post office, swimming pool and a nighttime deposit box from a former Ada utility office that is now John and Toni's.

Here he goes again.

Terry Craft, 1955-2015

Terry L. Craft, age 60, died on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 4:27 p.m. in Kenton. He was born on April 29, 1955 in Lima to Virgil Craft and Barbara A. (Allen) Pitts. His father survives in Winnamac, IN and his mother survives in Alger.

Terry retired from Perry Schools where he was a teacher. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War from August 17, 1972 to January 20, 1975. He was a member of the New Birth Living Word Ministries, Inc, Alger. He was a member of the McGuffey Conservation Club and the Lima Eagles Post #370.

Ada-made Harvest Pride Tortilla Chips debut in Hardin County chamber event

After nearly three decades of watching others turn his corn into tortillas and tortilla chips, Hardin County farmer Denny Hensel is doing it himself, in Ada. 

His Harvest Pride Tortilla Chips were featured in the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance’s annual Member Appreciation Day luncheon on Friday, at the chamber’s headquarters in Kenton. Chamber officials used the occasion to announce a new Farm-to-Table marketing initiative that they hope will spawn similar agribusiness efforts here.

Ada product introduced at Friday's Hardin chamber event

Harvest Pride tortillas and chips, produced in Ada, makes their debut at the Hardin County Chamber of Business Alliance membership appreciation day on Friday, July 24.

Harvest Pride is Hardin County's newest farm-to-table product.

The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Alliance parking lot, 225 S. Detroit St., Kenton. It's free for members and prospective members.

David Wagner, local celebrity chef from Plaza Inn Family Restaurant and Catering, Mt. Victory, will have lunch prepared.
