The Ada Senior Citizens will meet at noon Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Community Health Professional building for pizza and card games and/or board games.

Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law will present the 2015 Carhart Symposium on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. in the Celebrezze Large Moot Court Room.

The program will feature “Risk Taking and Governance: The Duty to the Public,” presented by Steven L. Schwarcz, Stanley A. Star professor of law and business at Duke University, and “The Dangers of Modern Banking,” presented by Eyvindur G. Gunnarson, professor and dean of law at the University of Iceland.

This event is open to the public.

The Peggy Ezekiel Awards Exhibit, a collection of works recognizing outstanding achievement in theater arts, design and technology, will be on exhibit in the Elzay Gallery of Art now through Feb. 27.

The work selected for the exhibit was produced by members of the Ohio Valley Section of the United States Institute for Theater Technology. This show displays the best in costume design, lighting design, scenic design, sound design, technology/craft, and architecture.

Funeral services for Paul E. Risner will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Trent Boedicker officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Risner, 76, died at 8:33 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, in an auto accident.

He was born on Oct. 23, 1938, in Lima, Ohio to Elmer R. and Ellen Elizabeth (Gilroy) Risner and they preceded him in death. On May 19, 1956, he married Carolyn J. Gullett and she survives in Bluffton.

Today Ada's Kiwanis group held it's meeting at the Ada Public Library. After a brief introduction to the history of the library  Library Director, Amanda Bennett, shared some statistics about library services, and discussed 2014 in review with Kiwanians present. After a Q&A, members offered their time to the library, assisting in the cleaning of DVDs, and shelf reading (reading spine labels to make sure materials are in alphabetical order.)

Waste Management, Ada's refuse and recyling collection contractor, wants its customers to think green in 2015.

Ohio Northern University has announced its 2015 art exhibition and gallery season at the Elzay Gallery of Art and the Stambaugh Studio Theatre Gallery. Love is in the air and it's coming to Ada in February.

Community Health Professionals will holds a gift show and salad buffet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, according to Deb Curlis.

The event includes food and local vendors displaying great gift ideas for Valentine's Day. During the day there will be a salad bar and bake sale in addition to gifts available.

Evan W. Simon, 91, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at 11:50 p.m. at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton, surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 3, 1924 in Hardin County, Ohio to Edward “Dutch” and Rosa (Badertscher) Simon, and they preceded him in death. On Aug.11, 1942, he married Dorothy Marie Baier, and she died Dec. 29, 2008.

Mr. Simon was a barber for 23 years in Ada and Dunkirk. He later owned Simon’s Sohio, retiring in 1987. He was a 1941 graduate of Ada High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Phillipines during WWII.
