The Ada golf team finished a solid second at the four-team Hardin County Bill McClain Memorial Invitational at the Kenton Memorial Golf Course Saturday.
Kenton won the event with 182 strokes, followed by Ada at 205 shots. Riverdale was third (225), while Ridgemont came in a distant fourth (265).
Senior Dexter Woods finished third overall and led the Bulldogs with a nine-hole score of 47. Junior Geddes Klingler carded a score of 49, and senior Andrew Rush registered a 50.
Sophomore Jack Baumgartner was the fourth Bulldog scorer with a round of 59.
The Ada volleyball team lost a non-league tri-match at Arlington with county rival Hardin Northern Saturday morning, September 4.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to the host Red Devils 25-15, 25-18 in the first match. They then lost a close two-setter to county foe HN 25-21, 25-23.
Ada dropped to 1-7 overall with the defeats. The Red Devils ran their record to 1-4 with a split, while HN improved to 3-6 after sweeping Arlington 2-0.
Bulldog junior Courtney Sumner hustled up nine digs and hit for six kills vs. Arlington.
After a nine-year hiatus, visiting Ada triumphantly resumed its traditional rivalry against county foe Hardin Northern with a 42-30 win Friday night, September 3.
The Bulldogs trailed 24-21 at halftime and 30-21 in the third period, but scored the final 21 points to pull out the win. It was the first Ada victory since outscoring Delphos Jefferson 74-70 on September 27, 2019.
Ada improved to 1-2 with the victory in their last non-league game of the regular season. HN fell to 2-1 with their first defeat.
"When you have been coaching as long as I have you are just excited for the kids," said first-year Ada head coach Toby Smith of his first win as Bulldog mentor.
The Ada golf squad competed in a three-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday evening, August 31, at Moose Landing Country Club.
Host Columbus Grove won with 180 strokes, six ahead of Leipsic (186). Ada was third at 216 strokes.
