Women’s soccer at home Friday, Saturday

This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern women's soccer program returns to Kerscher Stadium to close a three-game home stand Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15 when the Polar Bears welcome in Trine (Ind.) and Alma (Mich.) for non-conference affairs ... Friday night's contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. against the Thunder while Saturday's matchup with the Scots is slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff ... Northern enters this weekend's competition sporting a 1-2-0 record after recording the program's first win of the 2018 season last Saturday with a 1-0 triumph over Case Western Reserve ... Following a scoreless first half, junior midfielder Haley Moses supplied the game winning goal and the program's first goal of the season in the 69th minute after tapping in a shot that rebounded off Spartan goalkeeper Lauren Metz ... Senior forward McKenna Welsh was credited with the team's first assist of the campaign as she produced the initial shot attempt on goal ... Senior midfielder Sarah Puntel leads the Polar Bear offense with nine total shots while Welsh stands second-best with five attempts ... In net, junior Meagan Grierson has started all three matches, recording eight saves, a 1.29 goals against average, and a shutout ... Trine enters the weekend laying claim to a 3-2-0 overall record, which includes a 5-0 win in their most recent outing against Defiance on Wednesday, September 12 ... Junior forward Kristen Reece and freshman Hayley Waltz lead the Trine offensive charge with three and two goals, respectively ... Alma currently holds a 1-3-0 overall record, but the Scots are also slated to play Heidelberg Friday evening before arriving at Northern ... Sophomore Lauren Sollestre has tallied the lone goal of the season while freshman Ashley Oldham recorded the assist.
