Bulldog baseball downed at Elmwood

BLOOMDALE – The visiting Ada High School baseball team lost 12-2 to Blanchard Valley Conference foe Elmwood on Monday, April 14.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the first inning to break on top lead early. But the Royals answered with three scores in the home half of the opening frame and never relinquished the lead.
Elmwood tacked on one run in the second and two more in the third to go ahead, 6-2. Single runs in the fourth and fifth frames extended the margin to 8-2.
The Royals invoked the 10-run rule with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Ada’s overall record dropped to 2-6 and 1-2 in the BVC after the defeat. The Royals improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in BVC play with the win.
First baseman Mason Wibley doubled home both Bulldog runs in the opening frame.
Ada senior shortstop/leadoff hitter Levi Green singled and scored the first run in the top of the first inning.
Catcher Andrew Allen singled and scored the other run. Right fielder Tyler Stauffer stroked the fourth Bulldog hit.
Elmwood knocked out 14 hits, while Ada had four. Four Bulldog errors helped lead to four unearned runs. The Royals played error-less defense.
DH Ryken Ziegler hit a triple and two singles for Elmwood. Nico Allen drove in four runs with four singles, and scored a run.
Royal hurler Zackery Gross struck out 10 and walked none in six innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits and two earned runs, and held Ada scoreless the last five frames. He also stole three bases, walked, scored a run and had one RBI.
The Royals left seven runners on base, while Ada stranded three.
Bulldog starting pitcher Wes Mowery hurled two innings of three-hit baseball. He gave up two earned runs and struck out two with one walk.
Brody Rister relieved and pitched 3.2 innings. He permitted 11 hits and six earned runs. He struck out three and walked three.
The Bulldogs host Arlington (1-5, 1-0 BVC) Wednesday, April 16. The Red Devils lost 13-0 to Van Buren Monday. Ada entertains Ridgemont (2-4) Friday.
