Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter was awarded the Star Chapter Award for the sixth consecutive year at the PRSSA National Conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 10-14.
ONU is one of two schools in the nation to win the Star Chapter Award every year since the chapter was established in 2009. The Star Chapter Award recognizes a chapter that meets eight of 10 requirements set by PRSSA, which are: initiate and complete at least one community service project; strengthen the relationship with the PRSA sponsor chapter; give attention to ethics in at least one chapter meeting; confirm that at least one chapter member applies for an individual national PRSSA scholarship or award; confirm that the chapter applied for at least one national PRSSA award; implement at least one national initiative; confirm attendance by at least one chapter member at National Conference, National Assembly, a regional activity or leadership rally; gain positive attention for the chapter in at least one campus or community publication or media; extend an invitation to students/faculty from other disciplines to attend at least one chapter meeting; and confirm that at least 10 percent of the chapter’s graduating seniors applied for PRSA associate membership.
Hannah Peterson, chapter president, said, “I could not be more proud of our PRSSA chapter. The members are constantly working their hardest to better themselves and the chapter.”
The PRSSA chapter at ONU strives to bring prestigious and diverse speakers to the campus for chapter meetings once a week. When there is not a speaker, a workshop is put together to teach PRSSA members valuable public relations skills.
