LIMA – The Ada High School wrestling team finished eighth at the 15-team Div. III sectional tournament hosted Saturday by Lima Central Catholic.
Allen East won the sectional title with 163.5 points, while Coldwater finished a close second at 157. The Bulldogs scored 78.5 points to tie with Antwerp.
Bulldog senior Landon Simon finished second in the 215 lbs. bracket to make it to districts. Ada junior Silas Riblet also took second in the 126 lbs. division.
Junior Zaiden Denslow took third at 120 lbs. to become the third Bulldog district qualifier.
Sophomore heavyweight Easton Lane finished fifth at 285. Sophomore Wyatt Fisher came in fifth at 138 bs. Freshman Ethan Carl took sixth at 175 lbs.
Simon was seeded second out of six grapplers in the 215 lbs. bracket. After getting a first round bye, he won his semifinal match by a 13-10 decision.
In the championship bout, he lost to top-seeded Allen East senior Kyden Culbertson by pin in 2:37. Simon advances to districts with a 31-5 season record.
Riblet was seeded third out of 10 wrestlers in the 126 lbs. division, and took his first match by tech fall 17-1. In the semifinals, he won by pin in 3:39.
In the title bout, he was pinned by AE freshman Kellen Wireman. Riblet advances to districts with a 24-12 record.
Denslow got a first round bye at 120, and lost his semifinal match by technical fall. In the consolation bracket he won his first match by pin in 95 seconds.
In the third-place bout, he pinned senior Brayden Thompson of Delphos Jefferson in 4:38 to take third. Denslow now has six wins this season.
Lane was seeded first in the eight-man heavyweight bracket. He was upset in the quarterfinals in a close 13-12 decision. He won his first consolation match by default, then lost by pin in 4:43 at the consolation semifinal level.
Lane bounced back to capture the fifth-place bout with a pin in 3:27. He ends his season 26-13 after going 2-2 at the sectional tourney.
Sixth-seeded Fisher lost his first match 7-0 at 138 lbs. In the consolation bracket, he won his next match by pin in 38 seconds. He then earned a 10-5 decision win.
In the consolation semis, Fisher was pinned in two minutes. He rebounded to win the fifth-place match by pin at 2:31 to end up 3-2 on the day and 20-24 for the season.
Senior Liam Vieira was seeded third out of 11 wrestlers in the 144 lbs. division. He was pinned at 4:55 in his quarterfinal match, then won by pin at 2:31 in his first consolation match.
However, he was then pinned in the ensuing match to end his season and the day 1-2. For the campaign, he posted a 29-7 record.
Sophomore Layne Simon went 0-2 at 165 lbs. to end his season with a 13-15 mark. Carl was 0-3 on the day and lost the fifth-place bout at 175 by pin to end his campaign with seven wins.
A top-four individual sectional finish qualifies a wrestler for the district meet Feb. 28-March 1 at Troy’s Hobart Arena.
