Earnest Hackworth was a WWII veteran

 

Earnest "Ernie" Hackworth, 91, died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:22 a.m. at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

He was born on November 10, 1922 in Bonanza, Ky. to Greeley and Elizabeth (Caudill) Hackworth and they preceded him in death. On February 5, 1946 he married Susan Harmon and she died on May 1, 1999.

Ernie retired from Sheller Globe, Superior Coach Division of Lima after 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Philippines during WWII from March 5, 1943 to November 30, 1945. Ernie was a member of the LaFayette Missionary Baptist Church. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #185 of Ada, the Ada VFW Post #9381 and Sager Lodge #513 F&AM.

Surviving are two daughters: Diane (Gary) Spradlin of Lima and Vicki (Anthony) Wolke of Ada; three grandchildren: Matt Spradlin of Lima, Jason (Michelle) Wolke of Wapakoneta, and Jennifer (Bruce) Fisher of Harrod; nine great grandchildren: Stephen, Brandon, Bruce, Jr., Taylor, Cody, Nick, Nathan, Kherrington, and Zach; and a sister, Alta MaeHackworth of Wooster.

He was preceded in death by one grandson: Nathan Spradlin; one great grandson Gary Neil (Gator) Spradlin, II; five brothers: Everett, Cecil, Manis, Maynard and twin brother, Earl Hackworth; four sisters: Mary Alice Pruitt, Elsie Leak, Flora Conley and Edna Floor.
A funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Ken Waldroup and Ellis Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with Military Honors conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July, 15, 2014 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio 45840 and/or the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
