Zach Beaschler: "I love 4-H"

My name is Zach Beaschler, I am 14 and I LOVE 4-H. All three years that I’ve been in 4-H I’ve been in Liberty Belles and Boys in Ada.

All three years I have loved 4-H from the games at meetings, to voting for a president, to doing a demonstration, to seeing your project at the County Fair or the State Fair. And many people really enjoy 4-H camp!  I hope to participate this summer at camp.

I just finished level 2 woodworking- Making The Cut this past year in woodworking. You can build many things in woodworking, but for level 2, I made a napkin holder.

This past year I was lucky enough to make it to the Ohio State Fair representing Hardin County. Last year when I did level 1 woodworking, I made a plant holder and a frame that I used as a dry easer board.  Besides Woodworking, in my 2nd year I did electricity level 1 and made a circuit.

There are many different topics you can choose from, anything from cooking to grilling to scrapbooking to robotics.   You can almost do anything for a project.  Whatever interest you have, there’s a good chance there is a project for it.  I really do enjoy 4-H.

About this feature
Hardin County has a long tradition of 4-H in our community. This year we are celebrating 100 years of National Extension, and 4-H is a big part of Ohio State University Extension.  In Hardin County over 850 youth participate in 4-H each year.

There are 34 different clubs in Hardin County, and youth can choose from over 200 projects to complete. Each week, the Ada Icon features and article written by a 4-H member about their projects and 4-H experiences.

The 4-Her of the week is also brought to you, in part, by OSU Extension Hardin County. To find out more out OSU Extension's many programs and services and 4-H, visit http://hardin.osu.edu.
