Shakespeare’s ‘Measure for Measure’ coming to The Freed Center stage

The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents William Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” from Thursday, Feb. 20, to Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. In addition, there will be two matinee performances: Saturday, Feb. 22, and Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. A post-show discussion with the company will be held after the afternoon performance on Saturday, Feb. 22.

In the play, immorality pervades the streets of Vienna. Temporary governor Angelo sentences a young man to death for fornication in an attempt to reassert the rule of law. But Angelo’s own morals come into question when a beautiful, novice nun named Isabella pleads with Angelo for the life of this sinner, her own brother, Claudio. “Measure for Measure” explores the issues of mercy, justice and truth and their relationship to pride and humility: “Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.”
