President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday November 26th at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada.
The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.
Ada Village Administrator Jim Meyer was welcomed as a guest.
In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report.
-The club’s annual Christmas Luncheon/Auction is set for Tuesday December 17th. They Club will host an Ugliest Christmas sweater contest. Start looking for an item for the Raffle. The event will start at 11:30.
-The sixty-third Pancake Day is scheduled for Saturday March 29th and the Ada High School Cafeteria.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: The sixth and final Object of Kiwanis International is: “To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.”
-Something to Ponder: Why is it that when you transport something by car, it’s called a shipment, but when you transport something by ship, it is called cargo?

-Member Joe Ferguson introduced Jim Meyer, Ada Village Administrator who spoke on the start of the new East Lima Street Project.
The bad news is that 40 trees will be cut down to accommodate the adjustments to the road.
The 12 houses on the south side will have their front yards re-graded which will be a dramatic and a lot of homeowners will be affected due to the adjustments in the storm sewer system. Some grant money has been received as well as a 20-year loan at 0% interest.
Planning for the project has taken over 3 years. They hope to go to bid in late December or Early January.
-Homeowners will have limited access and the biggest times to worry about are when they are pouring the concrete curbs and the access to driveways, which is basically 2 x 7 day periods and they are going to work hard to have good communication with the home owners though out the project.
They assume they will have to place mailboxes at the edge of the street. School bus routes and trash pickups are being considered.
They will work with the funeral home and the Ada Park Board to accommodate special events as best as possible.
They are going to dig down approx. 4 feet because the roadbed is going to be lowered a few feet. They need to dig down so far because it ise necessary to lay down a road base.
President Cox concluded with meeting with the following Thanksgiving joke: Why did the turkey eat his meal so quickly?
Answer: Because he was a gobbler.
