RAWSON – The Ada High School volleyball team finished fifth at the eight-team Cory-Rawson Invitational tournament on Saturday, September 28, by winning their last two matches.
Ada improved its record to 9-9 after the busy day.
The Bulldogs lost their first match to Holgate after taking the first set 25-14. Holgate came back to win the final two sets 26-24, 25-20 to advance to the semifinals.
Senior libero Bassitt mustered 20 digs to pace the defense.
Sophomore setter Jaylin St. Laurent passed out 21 assists, came up with 10 digs and dealt a pair of aces.
Senior Tess Griffith hustled up nine digs and hammered nine kills.
Sophomore Brooklyn Andreasen drilled four kills and came up with one block.
Sophomore Dailah Preston smacked three kills and made one block, while junior Anna Conley contributed three kills, two aces and one block. Sophomore Alivia Gibson smacked six kills.
Junior Alyssa Madison hustled up seven digs.
The Bulldogs then beat Arcadia in the consolation bracket semifinals 25-15, 16-25, 25-20.
St. Laurent doled out 23 assists and Conley led the hitters with eight kills against the Redskins.
Griffith knocked down seven kills and mustered 11 digs.
Andreasen smacked six kills and made one block. Preston compiled five kills.
Bassitt came up with 12 digs and Kennedy Jones served three aces.
In the consolation finals/fifth-place match, Ada swept Vanlue 25-12, 25-17.
Andreasen topped the hitters with seven kills. Griffith amassed five kills, three aces and six digs.
St. Laurent passed out 18 assists and served three aces. Jones dealt a pair of aces. Conley came up with two blocks. Bassitt mustered 11 digs.
Van Buren won the tournament title.
The Bulldog girls (2-5 BVC) play at Riverdale (6-11, 2-4 BVC) Monday, September 30 in a league match.
Ada then hosts struggling Arcadia (2-13, 1-6 BVC) Wednesday, Oct. 2 on Senior Night in the final home regular season match of the campaign. McClain, Jones, Bassitt, injured Belah Price and Griffith will be recognized as the team’s five seniors.
The Arcadia rematch will be their eighth contest in 10 days.
