KENTON __ Brynn Butler (Kenton High School) and Alex Sanders (USV) have been named as the 2024 Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame scholarship recipients. (Photos below.)
Brynn Butler, daughter of Jesse and Alana Butler, is a 2024 Kenton High School graduate. While attending KHS, Brynn participated in volleyball, softball and powerlifting.
She garnered a (2024) Honorable Mention All-WBL selection and is the current record holder for most digs in one season in volleyball. In powerlifting, she finished in the upper tier of the 125-pound girls class at the 2024 state meet.
Brynn excelled on the softball diamond. She was one of many KHS softballers to lead the Wildcats to the school's first ever co-WBL championship with an 8 - 1 record. Accolades in softball include 2nd team division II All-NW Ohio and 1st team All-WBL selection. She is presently a finalist for the WBL Player of the Year award.
Academically, Brynn was placed on the Merit Roll and received an Academic Letter since enrolling as a KHS student athlete. She was named Elks Lodge #157 Teen of the Month for January 2024, as well as KHS nominee for the Heisman scholarship. Miss Butler plans to attend the University of Akron, majoring in Nursing, with a desire to further her academics following college graduation to become a Nurse Anesthetist.
Alex Sanders, son of Travis and Jamie Sanders of Roundhead, is a 2024 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School. He has participated and lettered in three varsity sports- football, basketball and baseball- while attending USV.
Sanders has been recognized as All NWCC in multiple sports. In football he earned 2nd Team Linebacker (2021) 1st Team Linebacker and Running back (2022 & 2023), as well as (2023) NWCC Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team NW Ohio (2022) for RB and 1st Team NW Ohio Linebacker (2023). He also earned 1st Team All-Ohio (2022) for running back and 2nd Team All-Ohio for running back (2023).
In basketball, Alex has earned 1st Team All NWCC for Basketball (2022-23 and 2023-24), 2nd Team District 8 (2022-23), and (2023-24), along with Hardin County 1st team and Player of the Year for basketball and Honorable Mention All-Ohio (2023-24).
In baseball he earned 1st Team NWCC in Baseball (2023). He has also earned Academic All-NWCC (2024). Alex attributes playing sports and working hard to helping him develop a strong work ethic and valuing teamwork.
Sanders plans to attend the University of Findlay to continue his football career and major in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Analytics.
