The Ada High School volleyball team was swept in three sets by top-seeded New Bremen in the Div. IV district semifinals Tuesday night, October 24, at Wapakoneta.

The Bulldogs lost to the powerful Cardinals 25-14, 25-8, 25-5 to finish their season 13-11.

Top-seeded MAC tri-champion New Bremen improved to 20-4 with the sweep.

The Cardinals advance to the district finals against league foe Marion Local (17-7) in Wapakoneta.

“We came out strong and really fought hard and battled in set one,” said Ada head coach Kyleigh Woodruff. “We struggled to side out in sets two and three, and they had too many runs against us.

“New Bremen is a great team with hard float-servers who kept us off balance,” she continued. “They were able to put the ball away offensively.”

Ada senior setter Autumn Andreasen doled out eight assists to break the previous career record set by Maddie Gossard in her last match, Woodruff reported.

Andreasen finishes her Bulldog career as a three-year starter with 1,214 helpers. She also served one ace.

Senior Mariah King led the Ada offense with three kills. Classmate Daicy Robinson hit two kills and came up with two blocks.

Sophomore Anna Conley added two kills. Junior Tess Griffith had one ace and one block.

Junior libero Jenna Bassitt mustered up seven digs.

“I am extremely proud of the team for accomplishing the two goals we set for ourselves this season,” summed up Woodruff. “One was to have a winning season, and the other was to win a sectional title.

“We had a great season and worked extremely well together as a team,” she added. “We will greatly miss our four seniors, who are all three-year letter winners. They have been a huge part of our program.”

It was the final Ada match for senior defensive specialist Josie Phillips, Andreasen, King and Robinson.

Andreasen was named to the 12-player Div. IV East team for the District 8 All-Senior All-Star Game November 15 at Coldwater. She will play for Perry coach Jodi Cartagena and Vanlue’s Zack Bame.

Allen East senior hitter Soraya Jackson was named first team All-District 8 for Div. I-II-III. Jackson will also play in the Div. I-II-III All-Star Senior match for the East Nov. 15 in Coldwater.
