Marcille Marie (King) Coates worked for the Lima Public Library

Marcille Marie (King) Coates, age 80, of Harrod, died on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 12:25 a.m. at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. She was born on September 22, 1942 in West Newton, Ohio to Harold and Retta (Shaw) King. Her parents preceded her in death. On November 5, 1960 she married Roger Coates and he survives in West Newton. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. 

She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Derrol (Alice) and Milo King and sister, Creta (Harold) Gossard and a son-in-law Allen Hughes. 

Marcille worked as a librarian for 33 plus years. She loved her library patrons especially the young and old. She served the Harrod and Lafayette branches and visited many communities on the Bookmobile. She was also the local Avon lady for several decades. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lafayette. 

Marcille was a 1960 graduate of Harrod High School. She was an active CCL member, community organizer and loved planning family get togethers. Marcille loved to dance! Marcille enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends on bus trips and an occasional trip to the casino. She also loved shoes, shopping and bowling. She especially loved spending time with her family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She rarely missed a ballgame, concert or activity. Marcille took pride in the small town she grew up in and lived her whole life. She loved organizing trick-or-treat and keeping up with all her neighbors. Marcille also loved the Allen County Fair and did not miss a fair in over 75 years. You could normally find her sitting outside of the livestock barns. She loved to sit on their porch swing with her husband, Roger and tell stories and watching the world go by.

Also surviving are two daughters and a son, Marcy Hughes, Greg Coates and Sherry (Dale) Wilson all of Harrod. She had six grandchildren: Chad Hughes, Chase (Lindsey) Hughes, Tyler (Brooke) Wilson, Jordan Coates, Brent (Kayla) Wilson, and Travis (Karrie LeSure) Wilson; and six great-grandchildren: Jackson, Sadie, Hallie, Knox, Rayleigh, and Bennett who were her pride and joy. Jean King her sister-in-law also survives with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 101 East Main Street, LaFayette, Ohio 45854 with Pastor Ryan Cordle officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.       

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 2:00 -6:00 p.m. at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
