The Ada municipal building project isn't the only hard hat area in town this summer.
There’s a major digging project underway on University Avenue as Phase II of the Ream Street project moves across the village landscape.
Estimated at $735,000, Phase II is all about storm sewers. The existing storm sewer, installed in the early 1900s is undersized, broken and collapsed.
Funding comes from a Community Development Block Grant and from the village.
The lack of proper drainage causes the deterioration of streets in the project area, which cause problems for property owners yards and homes.
“Attempts to video and clean has not had any success,” said Jamie Hall, village administrator. “Some streets become impassable during flooding events and it becomes a safety issue.”
Phase II, underway now, involves storm sewer installation along South Simon from University to High Street, University from South Simon to South Johnson and South Johnson from University to High Street.
The existing storm sewer will be removed and replaced. New conduit, catch basins and manholes will be installed.
The project involves 697 feet of 30-inch, 1,100 feet of 18-inch, 550 feet of 15-inch and 790 feet of 12-inch pipe. It will includes 10 manholes and 20 catch basins.
The existing roadway will eventually be milled with a new surface installed.
