Ada's Beaschler wins district title, returns to state

By Cort Reynolds

BOWLING GREEN - Ada senior tennis ace Zach Beaschler rolled over four oppnents to win the Div. II district tournament in Bowling Green Saturday and Wednesday.

With the dominating victories, Beaschler also clinched one of the four top seeds and his third straight berth in the 16-player state tournament at Mason May 25-26.

Beaschler improved his season record to 24-0 with four straight-set wins at the district tournament. He won 48 of 57 games he played (8-0 in sets), and never lost more than three games in any set.

Beaschler, who rarely makes mistakes behind a consistent ground-stroking style, defeated senior Lukas Cziesla of Clyde in the district semifinals Saturday morning for the third time this spring. The Ada ace beat the German exchange student 6-3, 6-0 to reach the finals.

"He played a solid match," said Ada head coach Christy Beaschler of the semifinal showing.

In the district finals, he again beat freshman McGee from Ottawa Hills 6-2, 6-3. It was the second weekend in a row Beaschler beat the OH freshman in the finals, the prior time being at Defiance in the sectionals.

"I am very proud of the player Zach has become," said Beaschler. "He played a good match in the finals, and fought very hard."

In the district first round Wednesday, Beaschler whipped sophomore Daniel Stevens of Clyde 6-0, 6-0. Then in the quarterfinals, Beaschler eliminated senior Ben Brinkman of LCC 6-1, 6-0.

A top four finish at districts qualifies a player to the Div. II state singles tourney at Mason next Friday and Saturday. Last year, Beaschler made it to the state quarterfinals.

"I am very excited for next week," said Beaschler. "He will go in as one of the four top seeds" (as district champ).

Beaschler will attend Ohio Northern University to play tennis and major in business next fall.
