COLUMBUS GROVE - The Ada baseball team scored single runs in each of the final three innings to pull out a 3-2 win at Columbus Grove Thursday evening in their Northwest Conference season finale.
The Ada boys improved to 5-14 and 1-7 in the NWC with the comeback victory. Grove fell to 8-9 and 1-6 in league play with the defeat.
The win ended a 16-game NWC losing streak for Ada dating back to mid-May of 2016.
Ada sophomore Phllip Coulson hurled all seven innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs. He struck out a season-high nine and walked only one to earn his third pitching victory this spring.
Coulson also aided his own cause with an RBI single, and pitched around five Ada errors that led to two unearned runs. The right-hander threw 88 pitches, 61 for strikes.
Ada junior Ethan Hall doubled twice, scored once and drove in a run. Senior Aaron Everhart added a single, two stolen bases and a run. Junior Austin Amburgey contributed a double.
Freshman Zac Swaney stole three bases and walked twice. Frosh Tristin Conley scored the other Ada run.
CG led 1-0 after one inning, and inched ahead 2-0 after four frames.
But Ada tallied a run in the fifth and one more in the sixth to tie it, 2-2. The purple and gold then went ahead with a run in the top of the seventh. Coulson retired the side in the home team's last at bat to preserve the win.
Ada's last league win also came at the expense of Columbus Grove back on May 13, 2016. On that day, Ada rallied with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat visiting CG, 7-5.
