President Elect Heather Cox called the 1st meeting (October 2nd) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis year to order at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 2 at McIntosh Center, ONU
The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress. The following guests were introduced: Sarah Lipperman, Alyssa Mason, Katie Temple, Allie Puntel and Katie Lorson-ONU Circle K; and Judge William D. Hart.
The membership anniversaries celebrated on October 1st were noted: Al Baillis 1958; Jeffery Schulman 1978; and Charles Van Dyne, 1960.
The wedding anniversary of Scott and Jamie Wills (1994) was also noted.
Joe Ferguson reported that the landscape at the village entrance signs has been updated.
In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report.
-The club will sponsor Crock Pot Tuesday on October 16th at Restore. Harold Friesner reported that the club will be serving sauerkraut and sausage. He will need assistance with preparation and cooking.
-The Red Cross Blood Drive is set for November 12th. Set up by 11am. A volunteer sign-up sheet was passed among the members.
-Joe Ferguson reported that the committee is a stand still. They are waiting on permission from a property owner to grant permission on the north side sign.
-The annual Town and Gown Banquet is set for Monday November 5th. Myrna McCurdy is a member of the committee and will have nomination forms for Citizen of the Year.
-The Club agreed to send a student to the spring to the Kiwanis Key Leader program
-Our membership dues are due in (October 15th). Funds should be directed to Bryan Marshall, Treasurer.
-The annual Halloween Parade will be held on October 29th. Joe Ferguson reported that club will fill candy bags at our October 23rd meeting.
-Lt. Governor Linda Steinbrunner noted that Ohio Kiwanis Governor Craig Wallace will visit for Divisions 2 & 3 on October 8th in Bellefontaine.
-Bob and Myrna McCurdy and Jeff Schulman attended the Ohio Governor’s Installation on September 29 in Findlay. They reported that it was a very interesting and enlightening meeting.
-The club’s annual spaghetti dinner is scheduled for November 15th at the Ada. Peter Previte is chairman.
-The next Division 2 Council meeting will be held on October 30th at the St. Mary’s Eagles Lodge. It will begin 5:30 pm.
-Club member Mark Shull supplied the weekly joke.
-ONU Circle K reported that they are busy with several projects. They will be assisting the club with the annual Halloween Parade.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: Ohio now leads Kiwanis International in raising over $1,000,000 for Operation Eliminate.
-Something to consider: If you like you and who you are, then you will probably like almost everyone you meet regardless of who they are. From “Live and Learn and Pass it on”

Charles Van Dyne introduced Judge William Hard who spoke on the Hardin County Community Foundation.
The foundation has the following six characteristics: A flexible, yet permanent collection of funds supported by a wide range of donors; The relative independence to determine the best use of those funds to meet community needs; A governing board of volunteers, knowledgeable of its community and recognized for its personal involvement in civic affairs; An organizational commitment to provide leadership for community problems; A commitment to assist donors to create funds and distribute proceeds in accordance with the donor’s intent; and Adherence to a sense of “community” that overrides individual interests and objectives.
The Trustees and members are a group of area citizens serving without pay.
Contributors have established charitable funds with the following: Cash, Securities traded on major exchanges, closely held stock, real estate including residences or farm land, oil and gas leases and Insurance policies
