Ross scores twice in men's soccer win

The No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team won in dominating fashion 5-0 against the Thomas More Saints on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-2-0 on the season while the Saints suffer their first loss and fall to 4-1-3.

Senior Nate Bascom started the scoring for Ohio Northern in the 13th minute when he took a pass from junior Jeremy Barnes and beat the goalie while falling down.

This was Bascom's team-high 10th goal on the season.

Bascom was in on the action again when he passed the ball to freshman Keegan Ross who put the ball in the right corner in the 22nd minute making the score 2-0.

Shortly after, in the 25th minute, senior Cameron Johnson took a pass from Ross and scored his fifth goal of the season and put the Polar Bears up 3-0 going into halftime.

In the 60th minute the game was delayed for one hour and 18 minutes due to lightning.

After the delay senior Chris Matejka scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
The final goal was scored by Ross as he took a pass from freshman Shintaroh Itoh and put it in the net for his second goal of the game, and his eighth on the season.

Senior Mac Church earned his 38th career shutout even though he made no saves in the game.

His record improves to 8-2-0 on the season while Saints goalie Matt Kees falls to 4-1-3.

The Polar Bears outshot the Saints 11-3 with six shots on goal for Ohio Northern and zero for the Saints.

The Polar Bears play again on Sunday when they host Manchester (Ind.) at 2 pm at the ONU Soccer Field.
