ONU to host Veterans Appreciation Day on Sept. 15 at Dial-Roberson Stadium

Ohio Northern University will host Veterans Appreciation Day on Sept. 15 in conjunction with its home football game against Heidelberg at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

Pregame festivities, including a flyover by Ohio Air National Guard F-16 jets, begin at 1:45 pm with kickoff of the Polar Bears' home opener against the Student Princes at 2:15 pm.

All veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families will be admitted into the game for free and will have the opportunity to be honored on the field prior to the game.

Tickets, priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students, will be available at the gate.

Faith Fell services on Thursday

Faith Elizabeth Heck Fell, 84, died Aug. 24, 2012, at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville.

She was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Zanesville, the youngest of two daughters, to William and Edna Campbell Heck, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 9, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Gerald W. Fell, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Mark Methodist Church, Lima. She graduated form Lash High School in Zanesville, and attended Bowling Green State University.

OHSAA has football state tourney tickets available

All-session tickets go on sale Monday, August 27, beginning at 9 a.m. for the 2012 Ohio High School Athletic Association State Football Finals.

The six championship games will take place on Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, at Fawcett Stadium in Canton and Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon. 2012 marks the 23rd year that Stark County will host the state football championships.

Duane Bollenbacher wins first week's football contest

Duane Bollenbacher of Bluffton is the winner of the Ada Icon's first football contest. He picked correct winners in all 15 games.
