ONU football: How about those 'Bears; 45-0

Senior Ryan Malone returned a punt for a touchdown and caught a TD pass to lead Ohio Northern to a 45-0 Homecoming football victory over Marietta Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 3-3 overall and are 2-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Pioneers fall to 0-6, 0-5.

Malone returned a punt 72 yards for a TD and caught a 44-yard touchdown pass and finished the day with 140 yards of total offense.

Wanda Sue Dyer, 1963-2013

Wanda Sue Dyer, 49, died on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at 9:33 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1963 in Lima, Ohio to Chalmer and Bessie (Lawrence) Dyer. Her father survives in Alger and her mother preceded her in death.

She formerly attended Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger. 

Donavin Dunbar fought in the Battle of the Bulge

Donavin D. Dunbar, 90, died on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at 1:05 a.m. at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1922 in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to John and Esther (Liecthy) Dunbar and they preceded him in death. On June 25, 1943, he married Betty J. Stauffer and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2007.

Phillip Caris receives Outstanding Service Award from ONU

Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration honored Phillip D. Caris with an Outstanding Service Award on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The award, given annually at Homecoming, honors individuals who have provided sustained and outstanding service to, and whose contributions have positively impacted, the College of Business Administration and Ohio Northern. This is the fifth year that Outstanding Service Awards have been presented by the college.

National Chemistry Week means lots of chemistry demonstrations Oct. 23

Ohio Northern University will present the second annual American Chemical Society and Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Demos Extravaganza in the Mathile Center for the Natural Science room 247 on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Members of Gamma Sigma Epsilon will be conducting a number of demonstrations that include shooting the caps off water bottles and crushing pop cans. Other presentations will be lighting a dollar bill without burning it and experimenting with liquid nitrogen.
