A handbar grin

Layne Simon sports a mustache and he grew it instantaneously. Layne and his brother, Landon, were among countless Ada youth who enjoyed Saturday's Ada Public Library summer reading program kickoff. One of the activites was face painting.

Hootenannies focus on livestock quality assurance facts

The last meeting of the Hardin Co. Hootenannies 4-H club was held at the Kenton Ag Credit meeting room. There were 14 members present. This was our mandatory Quality Assurance day.

President Megan Williams opened the meeting. Sean Hurley led us in the American Flag pledge and Isaac Davis led the 4-H pledge. Old business included the decision not to take care of the flowers at the courthouse. We will be helping with the YMCA Triathlon in July as a community service.

What's your favorite board game? For Tom Crownhart playing is serious business

Almost everyone has a board game memory.

Maybe playing Candy Land, Yahtzee, Chutes and Ladders or even Battleship revives pleasant memories.

Thomas (Tom) Crownhart of Ada continues to compile his board game memories. Tom grew up in a military family who moved frequently. Tom recalls always playing board games with his family and 10 siblings. “Monopoly, Life, Trouble, any board game,” says Tom.

Patricia Lawrence 1948-2014

Patricia A. Lawrence, 65, died on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 8:40 a.m. at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.

She was born on December 10, 1948 in Kenton, Ohio, to Charles and Ruth (Grubaugh) Rettig and they preceded her in death. On June 10, 1967 she married Larry L. Lawrence and he survives in Ada.

Patricia was a homemaker. She was a member of the Alger Assembly of God Church.

Also surviving are a son, Gordon (Kim) Lawrence of Botkins; a daughter, Stacy Smith of Ada; three grandchildren: Courtney, Gabriel and Mikaila; a brother, Michael Rettig of Ada; and a sister, Pam (Roy) Evans of Harrod.

Lorna Pryor 1946-2014

Lorna J. Pryor, 68, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at 6:40 p.m. at Baton Rogue Community Health Services, Lima.

She was born on January 17, 1946 in Kenton, Ohio to Raymond and Kathleen (Holbrook) Gerlach. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Kenton, Ohio. Special Friend Robert Rowe survives in Kenton.

She retired from Inno-Plas of Kenton after working 8 years as a press operator.

189 Ada High School students receive year-end academic honors

During the end-of-year Ada High School scholastics honors assembly 189 high school students were recognized for achievements made during the 2013-14 school year. The recognition was given for outstanding work in classrooms and in organizations in the school
