Ada midget football and cheerleading teams hold Cancer Walk Oct. 12

The Ada midget football and cheerleading teams will hold their second annual Cancer Walk from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 at War Memorial Park, Ada. The walk is open to anyone in the Ada community, including parents, students, coaches, and athletes. 

Those wishing to participate may purchase a purple t-shirt or hoodie commemorating the event and all participants are encouraged to wear their t-shirts or hoodies during the walk. All proceeds of the walk and shirt sale will benefit Not By Choice Outreach in Kenton.

University presents Oct. 8 forum on ‘Crisis: Freshwater in Northwest Ohio’

Ohio Northern University’s Phi Beta Delta honor society for international scholars and the ONU chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, an international honor society in geography, presents “Crisis: Freshwater in Northwest Ohio” in the Dicke Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

A three-member panel will discuss the latest crisis of freshwater that occurred this past summer in Toledo and dissect what occurred and the ramifications of the crisis. The water problem was a result of toxins contaminating the water supply to approximate 400,000 residents in northwest Ohio.

Tween book discussion group reading "Doll Bones"

“Doll Bones,” winner of a 2014 Newbery Honor Medal, is the next book on the Tween book group, according to Amanda Bennet of the library.

The group, for 4th through 6th graders will discuss the book at 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, at the library.

The book’s author is co-created of the Spiderwick Chronicles.

Future books on the Tween discussion list include “Where the Red Fern Grows,” by Wilson Rawls, in November, and “A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens, in December.

Volleyball: Ada demolishes Kenton in three matches

Look at those Bulldogs.

The Ada High School volleyball team defeated Kenton 25-3, 25-8 and 25-15 in a non-conference Hardin County rivalry.

The win puts the team at 14 and 2.

Ada band launches competition season in great style

The Ada Marching Bulldogs began its 2014 competition in fine fashion on Sept. 20.  

After arriving at the school bright and early Saturday morning to march in the annual Harvest and Herb Festival parade and opening the crowning of the queen festivities, the band traveled to Louisville High School, near Akron, for the first competition performance of the season.
